I say that, yet spend my summers swimming, lounging, boating, etc on the NJ shore (OCNJ) |

we had dust storms like this all the time in Iraq. Breathing was slightly difficult. The trick is to put a cloth over your nose and mouth. It also sometimes hurt depending on how fast it was travelling. We had 1 roll in that was travelling about 60 MPH. When it hit I was about 15 feet from the building and I couldn't see it. It took me a while to even find the door for me to get inside.

Portland is FUCKING boring! |
Ever hear of a little incident called the Mount St. Helen's eruption? Of course you probably weren't even a gleam in your daddy's eye at the time, but it was kind of impressive. Enough so to make their little dust storm pale to insignificance. A few of us old-timers still talk about it now and then.
Personally, I much prefer boring. Maybe even "FUCKING boring!"
While I'm bringing up old shit, have you ever heard of an ancient Chinese curse that goes something like, "May you live in interesting times." There's a reason it's called a curse.

Yea, my hometown got plenty of fallout from St. Helens, and it's 90 miles away. I was two at the time, so I don't remember the blast, but I do remember playing in the inch of ash it left behind as I grew up. From wiki, "Detectable amounts of ash covered 22,000 square miles".
Wait until Mt. Hood blows, you'll have plenty to talk about. |

Come on down to Eugene. The whole valley is full of smoke from the fires around here. There's even ash falling like a very light snowfall. You can put on a red filter and it will be just like being in Australia right now. |
Sounds interesting. To bad I really hate Eugene, much more than Portland.

Here in portland if we get a snow flake or even rain, people fucking freak out and shut everything down. Can you imagine it Mt. Hood did a tiny poof? They'd declare martial law and do a mandatory evacuation. I would not be able to get photos of that at all!

Ha....I hope not. Mt Hood is near-by......Mt St. Helen's was awful. I was not here for it....but went to the visitors center and saw the devastation it caused. I prefer boring too! I hope you are all safe in Sydney. |
