I noticed that Amazon is taking pre-orders but B&H is only offering to put you on the mailing list for notification when the product is available. I'm not confident enough in Amazon (though I use them for lots of other things) to pre-order.... I'll wait for B&H, I suppose. I suspect it'll be a long wait, won't it?

Well the prospect doesn't thrill me either, but consider that the 5D Mark II was released last Summer and still backordered virtually everywhere in late February.

Jessops in UK sent me an email stating they had 7Ds in stock now.

Well that's not fair! I can't afford a UK 7D.... :-(

I pre-ordered mine here in Japan. The store says they would be in about the first week of October.

As for the video, it's the reason I'm buying one. Auto-focus is something you might want on your average camcorder but if you are really looking into producing quality short-films etc, this camera is great. The selection of varied lenses as well as the shallow DOF is what's amazing. I can't remember which lens it was, but with many if you zoom out to infinity then anything a certain distance away from you is in focus.

Just got notice that B&H is accepting pre-orders now.

So.... should I?

Always amazes me how much more expensive camera equipment is in the UK, and not just accounted for by VAT.

Of course you should. Get your name on that list before it fills up. You will feel sooooooo good when you open the box....

The list is probably full already... But if you sign up now, you might get one from the second or third batch.

Good luck. I didn't get home until 11pm and figured I probably missed the first shipment by then. Since B&H charges your card upon ordering, I didn't want to give them a free loan while I wait on a backorder. :-/

You might enjoy this post on Flickr about the poor image quality someone is experiencing with their new 50D. Interestingly, I am having the same problems with the 20D I just bought from Scalvert.

You had me worried for a second there! :-O

BTW- that particular camera was calibrated to take ribbon-winning photos about a third of the time. Don't break it!

Well, it's brought me a couple of mid-5's so far, so the next one ought to be it.

I hope you realize the HongKong version uses traditional Chinese characters on both dials and in the menu.

They never have with anything I've pre-ordered or had backordered. When I pre-ordered the 7D, it said my card would NOT be charged until the item ships.

That surprised me, too. Yet there it is:

Heh! I guess I read it wrong. I thought it said NOT... oh well. They get the loan from me. Let's just hope it isn't too long.

I have never used this company but they are saying they have the 7d in stock for just under £1500 GBP www.digitalrev.com

eta. I think they are a Hong Kong based company but they charge and pay all the import to the UK so there is nothing on top of that according to their t&c
