Took a couple of days a week or so ago and went to Belgium. Visited the lovely cities of Brussels and Brugge, and more importantly the lovely DPC'ers Ralitza ( dreamy) and Bianca ( anotherday). For those that follow along at home, I took tourist shots! (It's what I do...)

A couple of tips about Belgium - not a big country. Stop at one of the many well-equipped rest stops before you leave Germany... Belgium doesn't have any from the Netherlands until you almost get to Brussels. From Brussels to Brugge you're set for rest stops, but if you need gas, you won't find any easily from Brugge to Ghent.

While in Belgium, you must, of course, buy chocolate. I cannot describe how insanely good it is. Seriously. And if in season, get mussels. They're awesome. I've heard the beer is good, too.

The language (used on road signs) is Flemish, of which I know none. The other language, particularly in Brussels, is French. And nearly everyone speaks some English. If you want a recommendation for a good hotel in Brugge, let me know - the one I stayed in was quite nice, excellent location, easy parking and access.

Anyway, there are pictures. Here are a few:

<--- Very good chocolatier.

And of course:

I smelled chocolate and it led me to this thread.

Great pics. Hopefully later, I can rumage through and comment on some of them.

Nice shots! I've wanted to visit Bruges since I saw the movie "In Bruges."

Mmmmmm...despite my slightly disastrous relationship with a Belgian (who was transplanted to Canada at a tender age, maybe that's what soured him :-) I'd love to go see Belgium and most of Continental Europe. Just have to win a lottery or two to be able to afford it!

It's definitely worth a visit. And I forgot one thing - in addition to chocolate and mussels, you also have to have a waffle while you're there. To the US contingent - waffles are not available for breakfast - they are an afternoon treat with coffee.

Wonderful photos! Looks you had a great time in Belgium. I love your "chocolatier" photo. They made them very well out there, although I prefer the beer as most famous Belgium product.
