What is it with this place that turns everyone into Keyboard Warriors.

It's not just this place, trust me. Teh Internetz does things to people.

yes true. But if there is no arguing there is no fun in reading forums. So for the sake of fun and enjoyment we need all this. (i also do my bit time to time but i aint no veteran).

I guarantee it. There are some people that I argue with constantly on the internet, but get a long with great in real life.

Point being, is that there are examples of it the other way, and it's not skewed nearly as badly as the detractors of voting on challenges you enter would have you believe.

I generally vote most entries higher than what I get, and there have been people that have piped up and said how much they enjoy voting the challenges they enter, and generally score them well.

If you research personal stats, I think you'd be surprised how many people have a higher vote given than received.

You know what people??

Shit happens.

Lets all move on and put our skill, thoughts, differnet points of views, love of photography into our photography, instead of arguments that will go no where.

Let bygones be bygones.

DEAL????????

Sorry about that, I was sleeping, woke up and did not feel like reading all the rest of the various discussions going on in this thread. You are right, Most people have a higher vote given than recieved. But the reason could be because they enter at max 2 challenges per week and vote on 3 challenges. This brings up the total of votes given vs the total votes received so it can skew that stat a little bit.

eta: the other thing I have been thinking about is, if you do not allow people to vote in the challenges they enter, It might encourage people to vote 100% in the challenges they do not instead of only rating the minimum 20%.

Side challenges are a great way to refine your talents in a particular genre, or explore one you've not tried before.

They're generally pretty easygoing about commitment.....you do your best to shoot within the parameters of a certain subject, i.e. B&W, self portraits, Where I Live, wildlife, flowers......

And you'll get to know your fellow photogs, watch them develop the style within the theme, and generally get a wide and varied view of possible interporetations of the themes.

You're asked to view and comment as often as you like, and/or can, and the study of others' views of the same theme you're shooting is a wonderful way to broaden your photography horizons.

I love them.....they're always a great way to uncork from a particularly dry spell of bad scores or a lack of inspiration by the challenge themes, and for the most part, the commentary is upbeat and thoughtful.

Give it a try, you'll have fun, and that's the general idea.

Oh, and you pretty much can't help but sooner or later find a side challenge theme that really resonates with you.

I hadn't even heard of Topaz 'til it started wandering in here on DPC here and there, and the next thing you know, there was a Topaz side challenge. I liked what I saw, had the recommendation of a participant and DPC friend (Thanks, Kelli!) and the next thing I know......it's working out for me......

Here is a pair of challenge entries I used Topaz on.....and did well with.....

You wanna talk community?

The Zen image was from the DPC Rickett's Glen GTG, and the old truck was a find from a day walking my camera looking for DPC stuff.....I got my Free Study the same day I shot the old truck....

This community can, and will truly open your eyes to your own inner photographer.......if you go looking for him/her, and keep your mind open.

There are soooooooo many good people here.
