With the 7D I'm using it for mostly the HD video and the ability to swap some fast lenses for some great DOF shots. With a 2000USD budget on the thing, what are many canon users using as primes?

I saw the Canon 24mm f/1.4L II and see that only 1 member has this lense??? Why? Price?
List your recommended lenses here for me. I'm new to Canon, not photography. I'm a Nikon guy with plenty of Nikon glass. I DON'T have the patience to wait for Nikon to catch up with Canon in the video department. SO...recommendations PLEASE!!

The 85mm 1.2 is awesome. I think it's one of the best they make.

eta: This might be the more current version.

The price of the 24mm 1.4L is probably not going to make it that popular especially among non-professionals. Here is a review on it if you are interested. Also, if you want to go wide (or stay normal on a crop sensor) check out the 28mm f/1.8. That's going to be my next purchase.

If you have to have thin DOF then it would be cheaper to get a 5Dmk2 and cheaper lenses......

Video is manually and has 24p on the 7D

Yeah I know the 7D has extra formats over the 5D2 (for now... The question is if they will do a firmware patch to add that to the 5D2 but this is Canon so don't hold your breath). The manual controls were added in the latest 5D2 firmware... a while back now, but if you want 24p I understand (or the faster ones to get some good slow motion by forcing a slower encoding).

The 7D makes a better video package for now apart from the extra thin DOF :-/ I still think by having to go for the ultra fast primes your going to be in the same price bracket but depends on how many lenses. Obviously you can film around a lot of that by forcing more distance on background (as I am sure you know) but sometimes....

Looking for ways to swing a 7D myself.... Unfortunately I think that I just pait a contractor to nail it on the flipping leaking roof for this year....

In any case, you MUST get the 100mm f/2.8 macro

How does this look to start

Tokina 11-16mm
Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM
100mm f/2.8 macro

I'm not sure what you are going to be doing, but if I was buying primes right now for video there are only a few I'd grab. 35mmF1.4, 85F1.8, and the 100MMF2.8 Macro. I might also pick up a 200F2.8L for longer stuff.

the 28F1.8 while decent does have alot of CA wide open and has a tendency to be soft until 2.2 or 2.5. I can't say enough about the 100MM macro, and well the 11-16 its not a prime. :D

I started off by saying primes for this thread, but I am really looking at what would be good glass for video. A nice wide angle like the 11-16 is not a prime, but you could almost consider it one. The 28mm is something that I know nothing about and I'm willing to hear what others have to say about it. Possible replacement being the Sigma 30mm 1.4. The 100mm macro looks like a keeper too. I just need 1 more good prime/zoom to fit between these lenses.

I would suggest either the 24-105L or 17-55 f/2.8 to fill the gap between your specialized primes. Both have IS, which may be particularly helpful for video. Don't forget storage if you don't already have a pile of big cards. 1080p video eats flash media for breakfast. You can get good deals on SanDisk Extreme cards now.
