Cinematography is another hobby I've taken up with a passion. I have a Canon XH-A1. It's a wonderful camera. I also have the Brevis 35mm adapter and plenty of Canon FD lenses. Will nice to work with, the quality of the Canon 5D Mark II is just unbelievable AND compact. I would love to trade my unit for a Mark ii but know that it would mean investing in some EOS lenses as well.

A photographer at the chapel I work at thinks that Nikon is done for the year as far as releasing anything new. I was hoping for a D750 or something with the equivalent video that the Mark ii has so that I can use my Nikon glass. Does anyone think Nikon is going to wait until next year? Or do you think it'll be this year? Do you think Nikon will be able to rival what the Mark ii can do video wise?

Like the D300s, upgraded D300, the hottest rumours have been a D700s. Seems logical, but I'm, relly hoping for a D700x, or a D750 that could compete with the 5dmkII in resolution and ISO performances.

So when is this magical D400 coming out?! I can't wait!!!
It'll be the first camera I'm ever going to pre-order... I have a feeling that it's going to kick some serious but.

Now only if they'd announce it...

I wouldn't expect a D400 anytime soon since they just released D300s. I think D700 and D90 will be upgraded next.

yeah, it might be a while.. but there should definitely be something coming in the hopefully not-so-distant future as the D300s is the D300 with movie which, in my opinion, isn't that much a technology upgrade. The D300s definitely won't be obsoleted anytime soon, but I'd find it hard to believe that Nikon doesn't have anything planned in terms of a technology upgrade for their top of the line DX format bodies..

I guess they could've added a 14 or 15 MP sensor and it would appear to be a more atractive camera, but... Nikon have manipulated me into thinking 12 MP is more than enough, so I don't care about that. What I've heard, though, is that the image quality is roughly the same, and that disapointed me a bit.

Nah, next upgrade for my will be the D700 succesor whenever it comes.

Thom Hogan is predicting the mythical D700x (actually, the D800) in March. He says probably an 18mp sensor, though, not 24-25.

I think they will release a D700s before they start on a new "serie" (D4, D400, D800). Or maybe not, but I hope so! I would love to see the same ISO range and noise performance in a D700 body. I don't care much for video but I guess it would be the same as you find in the other Nikon cameras.

D800 is another camera, and a 18mp sensor seems likely. I don't mind the extra pixels, but I prefer to shoot at high ISO's being confident the photos are useable.

D700x is a wet myth. Can't seem to understand why the would but that sensor in a smaller body. D3 and D700 makes sense because you loose a ton of extra features in the D700. D3X is already slow, performes badly at high ISO's, etc. The only difference between a D700x and D3x would be the size.

Many speculations from me. It's fun to speculate!

Speculation about new camera models is fun, but when are Nikon going to update the 80-400mm to VRII??

Now that's what I am waiting for!!
12/13/2009 06:42:50 PM · #12
Nikonrumors.com and some other places mentioned a AF-s 100-500mm f/4.5-5.6 VR (probably VR II). It would also accept converters. I want that one. I don't mind shooting at f/12, stopped down to f/16, ISO 400 or something at an effective focal lengt at 500mm + the new 2x converter giving me 1000mm + the DX crop factor giving a total 1500mm. WHOA!haha

Hey all

May as well resurrect this thread as opposed to starting a new one.

Preparing to upgrade to the D90 but before I spend a sizable chunk of $$, would like to know if anyone (esp those who work in camera stores) has heard of a new 'pro-sumer' coming down the pipe that would basically knock down the D90 in price. Would suck to go spend money only to watch the price drop sharply a couple of months later!

Nikon seems to wait about two years or so before issuing an updated camera. If they stick to that, then maybe a new one around August 2010 (D80 was August 2006, D90 August 2008). Curious what numbering system they will use for it- the D100 was their first digital SLR back in 2002. The trend seems to be away from more pixels and towards better low light capabilities.

i am not sure what you mean by prosumer. (i have one sony r1 though). But if you are happy with other brand and want something cheap. Pentax k-x match d90 in terms of image quality and it is cheap.

2 feb the coolpixes and 3 february Nikon will launch its newest SLR bodies / lenses

There is uncertainty about what.
- D900 to replace the D700, 24mp
- D?, a kind of 12mp FX D90 (maybe the old D700 in a cheaper shell)
- D3something with even better low light performance
- new format with a larger than 35mm sensor
- new format with a smaller than APS-C sensor
- underwater large sensor camera
- D7000, a D90 replacement

Not all, maybe 1 or 2.

Check out dpreview and look for Thom Hogan (www.bythom.com).

But don't expect too much. Like the Apple announcement tonight, we will know more after the real announcements.

I'm hoping for a D700s. Basically a stripped down D3s, I don't think it will cost that much either. I need the low light performance and can't afford a D3s
