This guy is about 2 inches long. Very creapy looking bug!

ETA: This was taken with the Canon G-10, First time I used the Macro Setting, Gotta admit it is quite impressive. Infact when it comes to shooting macros I will probably use the G-10 from now on.

wait, you're in New Zealand and you don't know about wetas? Aren't they like, a national treasure or something?

I haven't been here that long. Arrived during Winter and it is just now starting to turn spring, so this is the first one I have seen. Which is kind of strange because I have been here several times over the summer months and never came across one.

Ahh, that makes sense. Well, just wait until you run into a GIANT weta!

Having now see one and then googling the Giant Weta.. I am pretty sure where they got the name. The first guy to see one crawling up his leg Weta his Pants. I just read they have the Giant Weta's here in Wellington in a Sanctuary Reserve which is only a short ride from where I live. Gotta go check them out one of these days.

Cool bug! My Powershot S5 has a similar macro mode. It's one of the strong points of the higher end powershots.
