In case anyone was thinking of visiting the skywalk and taking photos, think again:

Wow that is to bad, can't believe that is the way they want to do business but I guess if people are paying it they have no reason to change and their policy on photos is just wrong.

have you been there? Most reviews I've read agree with the one you posted. I've never been to the Grand Canyon, but when/if I ever do I doubt I'd do the skywalk anyway.

bummer ... I would have liked to do that ... but after reading that review I'm pretty sure I won't bother ... thanks for posting and saving me some money and disappointment!

Well, the site for the skywalk provides this info so if you were planning to go I'd expect that you'd want to check it out ahead of time so you know what to expect.

When I went down to AZ there was that Skywalk and a few other interesting places I wanted to see but like that one they said no cameras at all.. PFFFT no thanks, if they didnt allow cameras I had no interest. Researching places like that is a must for me now to avoid potential disappointment...

In order to preserve the glass walkway they do not allow cameras. haha more like in order for them to get you to cough up money and buy the photos they take of you instead. I hate tourist traps even more so I hate those manditory photos at tourist traps. Boat Rides at Navy Pier in Chicago do that as well as Boat Rides at the Wisconsin Dells. When you get off the boat they have your photo hanging up on a wall for the world to see. Sometimes not the most flattering shot.. Last time we went for a boat ride at Navy Pier I zoomed in on the wall and took a photo of the picture of my wife and I as we were getting on the boat. Good enough for me.

yea, and by searching google they make you put on shoe covers as to not smudge the glass. But it looks like there are some camera rebels, i'm sure if you got some sort of journalist pass you could take pictures.

I was aware of the no personal equipment rule. Supposedly it is to prevent people dropping things and damaging the glass.

The carpet appears to be a new thing. They used to issue booties to prevent damage to the glass. Evidently the booties didn't work, or were more expensive.

The $30 bus ride, if it, includes access to the walk, is not too bad. They have to pay it off somehow. The $45 fee for just being on their land, now that seems to me to be a rip off. $75 a pop to go out there is more than I'm interested in paying. The big thing to me, is to make it more transparent. $75 if you want to see it, deal or no deal. A fee for this and a fee for that, is starting to sound like our government.

$29 a pop for pictures? Wow! Guess that is one more thing I'll never see. $179 for my wife and me to walk out on a glass bridge, and take a picture? I may not have much of a life, but I have enough of a life that I don't need to drive 20 miles down a dirt road to pay that.

Thanks for the info.

Well, that's a disheartening story, though I think the 20 miles of dirt road is actually a good way to keep the crowds down.

Btw, isn't the word "scam?" "Sham" means counterfeit.

Two words: rip off.

Imma build my own with recycled popsicle sticks and old hockey arena safety glass.

Well, if enough people drop stuff on the glass, it'll start getting scratched, I suppose...

There is no carpet on this glass balcony. Does anyone know what it costs to visit this tourist attraction? . . .

wow I read that article and that sucks what a rip-off

But if they are charging a pile of cash to walk on the thing, Replacing the glass shouldnt be much of a problem.

I don't know. Sounds expensive to me!

From the linked article...

"The specially-made German glass which forms the platform for our guests to walk the experience also plays a big part in the durability and beauty of Skywalk. Each of the 46 panes forming the walkway are constructed of 5-layers of glass bonded together and laminated, weighing in at 1,200 lbs a piece, and making the glass incredibly strong while still providing a crystal-clear view of the canyon below."

This is one of the most well-known ripoff/scam/take-your-money-for-nuthin' places in AZ. Numerous articles online, lots of media coverage, etc. I saw on the local news someone from the Phoenix area was actually trying to start a class-action suit to either shut them down or somehow regulate their "hidden costs," but that was some time ago -- I have no idea if that got anywhere.

I'd agree -- if you have any inkling to go see this place... Get over that thought as soon as possible. ;)

I haven't been there, but it's not even in the best part of the canyon! It's a huge scam and I'm shocked so many people fall for it.

Just go to the south or better yet north rim, $20 for a car load for the week, and you'll have a much better time and get far better views. And of course, cameras are allowed.
