Anyone have any ideas why my entry from for the Pink Challenge would attract such strange voting? I think the final score and placing is about right but why so many 1, 2 and 3 votes, I am confused. I have had scoring patterns like this before, but only when the subject matter was controversial. I thought my pink shot was pretty main stream.

Both Art and Juliet also independently noticed the strange voting.

I have checked the voting on the other top 20 images. They all show a normal distribution of voting. Where did I go wrong?

i wish i knew, i thought your shot was awesome. had i voted in the challenge, it would've been an 8 or 9 from me. maybe the 'zomg cleavage is EVIL' or the 'dyed hair is the debil!!1' crowd was out in full force for the pink challenge? the shot certainly doesn't seem controversial to me either. it's really odd to me that you ended up with 5 2's.

Man, I wouldn't be worried about your vote distribution at all--you were in top twenty, heavy bias of votes above 5, and a few low scores. Trying to analyze why those few gave the scores they did is futile, and trying figure out how to improve your image to win their hearts and minds is even more futile. I know one person here votes down nose piercings, but some may vote down cleavage, others don't like obvious model shots, etc. You got a great shot, great score, great placing.

I couldn't tell you either. My vote was one of the 8's. I think it's a great portrait from a unique perspective.

If you redid the shot to somehow appeal to the ones that voted it low, you would probably then lose appeal for everyone else.

One thing this place proves is that everyone has an opinion, and they are never all the same.

Voting down for piercings and cleavage, they get extra marks from me!!

Well we all expect low scores and varied opinions. Just seems strange to have so many 2's. It must be a conspiracy ;-)

This model sent me a mail out of the blue on the same day the challenge was announced. She wants to get into alternative modeling and needed some shots to get a profile together on model mayhem. What a coincidence, she had pink hair and loves the colour pink. Now I just need an email from someone that likes vegetables for this weeks shot! Please let me know if any specific veggies offend anyone so that I can avoid the terrible twos!!

you should be safe as long as they like vegetables and don't like vegetables, if you get my drift ;)

Now don't go giving Slippy any ideas.

2 reasons that I can come up with:

1: The pink falls into the purple range a little too strongly, especially when seen against the black. Now, the ribbon winning firework had this same problem, but was used in a much more DPC friendly kind of minimalistic approach, which brings me to...

2: The use of color in this photo is almost an after-thought, and ALMOST resembles a selective saturation kind of thing, which some people on this site despise the same way that I do water-drops. lol. If it even hints that you've selectively saturated or de-saturated, get ready for some low votes.

Those are the reasons I can see.

I don't like broccoli, however I won't give it a 2 just because of that. If it is photographed in an outstanding manner, it can certainly get as much as a 3. Maybe a 4 if your pink haired model is eating it.

I'm thinking you should go with the model with the fruit :)

Are you offering to model this week? That could be interesting!
