Ofcourse this challenge would come one day after I put together a huge colorful platter of Veggies for my Father inlaws Bday Dinner. I even got several positive comments on how well the dish was presented. Given that 95% of the people at the dinner were Chinese and the fact that presentation means just as much as taste in their eyes I think I did a pretty good job. I might just repeat the dish later in the week, But it was a load of work, Not sure I want to put up the effort a second time. Not to mention the dish cost a nice chunk of change and trips to 3 seperate markets to get all the ingredients. |

Or you might be able to grab some inspiration from the Healthy Food challenge |

That list is only "culinary" fruits and deliberately left off the tomato and cucumber -- as well as other fruits that are not "popular". |

Considering the description says create a scene, I think there is some good inspiration from this challenge:

Not accurate, you may find tomato and cucumber under topic "Fruiting and flowering vegetables" in the vegetable list. |

Actually, I was accurate and the listed article STATES that it's leaving off the fruits of tomato, cucumber and less popular actual fruits that they don't consider "culinary fruits".
A tomato IS a fruit and may be found incorrectly on vegetable lists. Fortunately, this is not Fruits OR vegetables soley and includes them both, so this is all academic. |

We will have here a problem with the DNMC's.
in English the word "veggie" refers to "edible seeds or roots or stems or leaves or bulbs or tubers or nonsweet fruits of any of numerous herbaceous plant" (see Free Dictionary) but in the challenge text they say:
"Following along our food theme, create a scene using only fruits and vegetables".
A voter who did not read attentively the text of the challenge , will discard the entries containig fruits. |

I see here only one solution here :
Langdon, please modify the name of the challenge to "Fruit and Veggie Tales" |

The description includes both fruits and vegetables. "Veggie Tales" is just a title, and if you're being THAT literal you might as well DNMC any entry that doesn't tell a story. The recent Life & Death challenge didn't require every entry to show both, and this title shouldn't be taken literally either. |

True, perhaps, but many of us know from experience that some voters do not read the description and narrowly interpret or misinterpret the challenge title. As an example, I remember all the critiques in the "warm colors" challenge that said "This does not convey warmth to me". |

If you want to get really literal, "Veggie Tales" is the name of a cartoon from a company that seeks "to enhance the spiritual and moral fabric of society through creative media."
Main characters:
Bob the Tomato
Larry the Cucumber (aka Larry Boy)
Archibald Asparagus
Junior Asparagus
Laura Carrot
Mr. Lunt (a brown, decorative gourd)
Jerry and Jimmy Gourd (yellow and orange, respectively)
Pa Grape (green)
The French Peas (the main two peas are Jean Claude and Phillippe)
The Scallions (three tall green scallions of varying width)

I absolutely agree! If your image simply has fruit in it (no vegetables), I would think that it will score lower and that you will be harassed by DNMC comments (or both).
Unfortunately, I imagine many folks that vote may not read the nitty-gritty details in the description and think that this is a vegetable challenge.
How many of you (when you first saw the challenge title), thought of fruit?

I was about to post something like this too. We've got most of their videos (even though I'm more partial to "3,2,1 Penguins." |

My first thought was that this was going to be a tribute to the Veggie Tales characters, along the lines of the Dr. Seuss challenge. Thankfully it is not so limiting (not that I'm entering anyway). |

I hope that this will not get us into a bigger trouble. Here is the Veggie Tales explained. |

And don't try to get by with just one fruit and one veggie. DNMC for sure! ;) The challenge text clearly indicates that plurality is a must!

The Veggie Tales movies can be pretty funny. "Nobody throws a dodgeball in the mayors office but me." From Moe and the Big Exit. |

Veggie Tales was an offhand comment I made to Langdon in chat last week and he turned it into a challenge topic, so don't read too much into "intent" or literal details. Just shoot some plant-based food as a scene and have fun. |

Great idea and photo, but to me that would clearly be a DNMC...
Following along our food theme, create a scene using only fruits and vegetables.
My first thought was buying googly eyes and arms, etc...but the ONLY is pretty clear. |

Better not have a background then. You'll have to crop down to just the subjects. Lighten up! |

You're right. I didn't catch the "only" part.
I guess I don't parse the challenge details as well as I should. |

Put that as an announcement to the voters. What you're seeing here Shane is the common wisdom of people who've been abused by nit-picky voters and trying to analyze NOT how WE will vote, but how the general populace will vote based on history.
So perhaps YOU lightening up would be best. |
