Hmm.... rethinking my previously shot shadows. Perhaps I should go forth and reshoot? With a camera of some kind? Even though it is midday with limited shadow offerings? Or perhaps I need to get a job and quit with the unemployed sleep late ride bike shower late nap in the afternoon bit?

I snapped a shadow of a roof rack on the van over the way from me, after I saw I had ten minutes until my meeting.

I then walked off sunwards where I saw some shadows of bare-branched trees on an old building. I had the wall and such in frame and then I wanted to get about 20 yards closer to get the shadows and not a whole lot of other stuff. Even as I walked those 20 yards, the sun went away and took the shadows with it. Boo hoo.

argh! I'm so sick of shadows! I have 3 shadow shots that I like for completely different reasons, and I can't decide which one to enter. Every time I decide on one, I change my mind. I really do think they should allow us to, once a year, enter two different shots in the same challenge. I would love to know which one would do better. All this indecision is Deb's fault. She's the one that told me I made a stupid choice for fine arts :P

I agree lets not go overboard, go for the reshoot..
03/09/2010 07:43:26 PM · #2731
Didn't get anything with the reshoot. Will see if I can salvage the original attempt.

And Wendy, your score is just fine in the FA challenge. For all I know, the one you didn't enter would have tanked!

Iâm about ½ way threw voting and commenting in FA, Iâm amazed at the number that donât get itâ¦..Then again it could be me not getting it, and explain my low score.

Ok, I entered my funkiest shot into the shadow challenge. Both of the other choices would probably do better, but there's something quirky about this one that I really like. Neither my son nor my husband like it, so I'm not holding out high hopes. But I guess we'll know in a week (or less)

IT'S DONE! I forgot I fixed my computer up so it runs fast now. Usually it would take forever to open everything.
I'm happy with it but I don't really think people will like it :)

Ok so after being here for a couple months and entering 19 challenges I know that Team Suck is the place I belong. I usually have the choice when it is time to enter the challenges to choose a typical, for dpc, shot or a more obscure or creative shot and while I want a higher score I can't bring myself to enter the less imaginative shot. So will Team Suck have me? And who must I go to to receive my lashings or whatever it is you do to be initiated into the Team of Suck?

I don't know if you thought I got it or not but I got a comment from you! Got another comment from a TSer too.

I'm on a downward trend, meself! My Shadows entry appeals to me from an artistic standpoint, and I'm being rewarded for that, DPC-style!

So I really know that it is a alternate world, I finished ninth in Parallel Lines. But then it's right back to sucking in Childrens Toys.

Couple of cool things about that....one, it's not a PB, though a great finish and a damn fine image, congratulations, second, that makes another challenge where there is more than one TSer in the Top 10.

Cool beans!

I am officially registered for the "Portrait and Wedding Photography" course at the local college. It starts in about a month.

In the meantime, we're renovating. Redoing the floor of the main level - got some nice 15.3mm laminate with attached underpad for $2.49/sq.ft. (that's $CDN, btw).
Also painting the living room - going from some nondescript off-white to "Southern Breeze" by Behr. I got one wall done last night, just one coat, but I'm quite pleased with the colour we picked.

Francis Bacon the Painter shares his tasty name with a Mr. Bacon who has been dead much longer and was not a painter at all but rather a guy who died after stuffing a dead bird with snow. How do I know this? Well seriously how many Francis Baconâs do you know, plus being done in by stuffing snow inside a bird is just memorable. But forget him this Francis Bacon, the not dead as long on, was an artist, painter to be more precise but really an artist is an artist whether their medium is canvas, food, camera or sculpture (or anything else for that matter). Another interesting connection is there is speculation that bother men were attracted to men. How weird of it had been if they were both alive at the same time and fell for each other? The wedding invitations would only need to have one name, this reminds me of a guy I used to work with named Bobby and his partnerâs name was Bobby. Rabbit trail lets get back on track

If Mr. Bacon had submitted his work as photographs to DPC he would likely have scored so low that he would have packed his bags and left. As it were he made a living as a painter and charged people lots and lots and lots of money for his work. Maybe there is hope for us who have a different take on the art of photography.

The term or saying âstarving artistâ was true about Bacon as he was up and coming. Petty theft, skipping rent and the likes helped him survive his time spent in and through London, Berlin and Paris. Not that I condone these acts but I wonder what would have been had he settled down and just worked in a factory, would we be able to admire his works such as Head II or MoMA or my personal favorite of the Head works, Head IV or would they have been lost forever in his mind? I wonder how much art and music and creative talent the world is missing out on because those artists are unable to support themselves.

Francis Bacon has many amazing paintings and you really should take some time and admire his works. I would give most of his stuff between a 7-10. His overall score in say a Free Study would likely fall in somewhere between a 4-6.

Mr. Bacon followed in the footsteps of 10 out of 10 people and has died. Ironically he died of a heart attack, o.k. maybe it isnât really ironic as many people die from heart attacks but his last name was Bacon, got to be a little irony in that, right? I donât know if he ate bacon though and I guess just having the name bacon doesnât really increase your chances of a heart attack. So anyway he died and was loaded, like 11 million pounds or something like that. The other Francis Bacon, remember him from the top of this post? Yeah? Well he was loaded too when he died, not quite as loaded but still something like 3 million pounds to todayâs standards. So what does this all mean? Well maybe it means if your name is Francis Bacon then you may have a same sex attraction and you will die loaded, or maybe not. I am not 100% sure on that one but I know what it does mean. It means you have a very tasty last name, well unless you are a vegetarian or vegan or something like that in which case you may want to think about having it changed.
