I guess to be stung nine times, it has to be your bank, your mortgage company, your boss, your broadband supplier, your gas station, your kids, your local car dealer, your music & dvd store and of course, a wasp or two! |

YES!
It's quite interesting, though, watching them cut chunks from a piece of meat to take home with them. When we have picnics we put some steak or chicken on a handy perch a ways from our meal, specifically for the wasps. It's much easier than having to watch, when you take a bite, that you're the only one eating your food.

I, too, have had run-ins with stinging things from lawnmowing.
Before that, my last experience with a yellowjacket was as a kid, when one landed on my neck. Instinctively, I moved my shoulder up to my head to brush it off, crushing it and getting stung in the process.
Also as a kid, something bee or yellowjacket-like flew into my coke can when I wasn't looking. After taking a swig, I realized something was in my mouth that didn't belong, and spat out the whole mouthful. Luckily, no sting. |

I went to refill the hummingbird feeder today and one was right inside the glass bottle part. One of the beeguards was missing so I covered that outlet with a small bowl-cover (those ones that look like wee shower caps) and the blasted wasps chewed a hole right through it!
While I was cleaning the feeder I discovered another wasp trapped inside one of the beeguards. I ran scalding water over it for a good two minutes, trying to flush it out, then looked and it was still alive and maaaaad! So right now it's sitting on the patio table while the wasp tries to figure out how to get out. He doesn't appear harmed at all, but man, is he TICKED! |

*sigh* When Becky got home from work and saw it, she felt so sorry for the wasp that she cut a couple of the bars and set him free. |

Not at all. Bees are a totally different critter, and have gotten an undeservedly bad rep because of being confused with wasps and hornets. |
It's just too easy sometimes... |

I was hiking yesterday and found this little baby....a Hornet's nest....actually a very large one, about 18 inches top to bottom. |

always a real good idea to take benadryl and pepcid (or zantac) after getting hit with those. helps a little. not to mention the ibuprofen you took.
I got nailed 7 times by wasps on the left hand recently. after running under cold water and doing the aforementioned (and killing the bastards with WD-40), my hand only swelled up to the size of a grapefruit.
been nailed a lot by bees, wasps and hornets during my landscaping days...mud and aspirin works well on stings too when in a pinch.
just a little info for the next one :-)
