My very first contest entry. I took this photo with my Olympus FE-180. The sun was to the SE; over my right shoulder... about 12:30pm in the afternoon. I reduced the exposure to -1.0 and chose Super Macro as my setting since my camera is horrible at close up shots on default. I sharpened the final image, as well. I took 5 photos of this yellowjacket on my stair railing of my deck before my dog scared it away. This was the 4th photo. Please, let me know how I can improve. I'd also like to know what I did right, as well.

Nice close up, hope you're not allergic!

Nice. Good, tight, pretty sharp capture of the yellowjacket. If it weren't minimal editing, I'd suggest cropping tighter, because the background doesn't help the shot, but nevermind. The lighting is a bit harsh. Maybe try finding the guy earlier or later in the day and shooting then (yeah, right).

Very good detail on the wasp. Seems like it could be sharpened just a bit more.
