The problem with oil isn't that it will conduct current, but rather that, over time it will polymerize and become a gummy, sticky mess that will attract and hold lots of dirt, lint, pubic hair and no telling what else, considering that it belongs to Slippy.
I'd try to remove as much as I could with some sort of non-conducting solvent (AKA contact cleaner) that's safe for plastics. If the automotive stuff isn't safe for plastics, try an electronics supply house like Allied. |

Oxy-Clean is suppose to lift the dirt and oil out.

I put the batteries back in, turned it on, was a little concerned about the oil which came out when I pressed the buttons, but it still works!
YAY!

Eventually, the oil will get the buttons and the underlying switch mechanisms clogged with gunk and you'll have to clean it out. |

I'd cook it quickly on a high heat turning only only which will help to seal the juices.
