Ok... so I went back and read this entire thread, every entry, and now I'm really wondering what is going on with the dpchallenge community. Did anybody look at Ben's portfolio? He may not have entered challenges, he may be trying to drive web traffic to his blog and you may question why he came here in the first place, but none of that has anything to do with how much you might be able to learn from him. He could do a full tilt Gordon Ramsay style bashing on me and I would still listen to what he had to say. This is photography and there are no absolutes but input and opinion can definitely contribute to any photographer's core knowledge and understanding. Finding any advice beyond the traditional how-to stuff is not easy... do we need to scare away everybody with skill and knowledge to be shared?

DPC is, pretty much, a back-patting, everything is wonderful, do-no-wrong, don't you dare tell me anything but how fabulous I am Love-In community :P

There are flashes of brilliance and of people choosing not to follow that clique, but you pretty much can't go against the grain too much or too often or you get labeled a disturber. lol.

What can ya do, right?

I would like to say, lets go disturb some people, but you can see that it's been a while since I last entered a challenge. In my defense... DPC brought me back to photography, inspired me to work with people as subjects and then motivated me to start shooting professionally. Now I post less because I'm working with client 2-4 nights a week and retouching on the others. It's harder than I ever expected and I've learned really appreciate the knowledge from anybody that has survived as a professional.

I'm sure I've digressed a bit, but there was a point in there when I started. Thanks for the response and I still think we should be disturbing one in awhile.

Oh, I don't generally shy away from being a disturbance, now and then.

In my not-so-humble opinion, I was glad to see someone come in here and shake up the business-as-usual. I've recently discovered the joys of semi-hard-to-hard light sources and am finding it hard to go back to umbrellas. Of course, I want to end up doing fashion someday, so it makes sense for me.

Just thought I'd chime in. Good work, Ben, and I'm looking forward to meeting many with that Paris attitude in my semester abroad. I'm a glutton for punishment (I guess that's why I keep coming back to the challenges here).

Hi;

I don't feel that I was ever directly abrasive with anyone on this forum. I find those here on DPC to be very civil and good natured. I would never go out of my way to act with malice of forethought.

But I am glad to a certain degree that as a result of this post, it got people thinking about it, negatively, positively or indifferent.

Ben :-)
