My 9 year-old daughter wants to start taking pictures for DPChallenge. I told her she needs to learn and practice more before I would let her get an account here. I also thinks she needs a thicker skin, but of course, she disagrees.

I promised to post some of her shots occasionally to see what people think of her pictures.

Here is her first post from the Rusted challenge.

Comments/critiques are welcome.

The focus on the hing in the 2nd photo is good but the focus on the rest is bad. Maybe she used a really low apparture setting (f2.8, etc)? Or maybe that plus a lot of cropping. Plus the grass looks really green (overly green). Was this because of too much PS post processing?

Just help her along, she'll do great. How bad can a 9 year do, really, when you think about it? :)

Yes, definitely, what stands out the most in this shot is the overly green grass, it distracts the eye a bit from the subject. Again, for a 9 year old, this is pretty darn good, better than I could shoot after several challenges for me.
;D

The scary part is how good a 9 year old can do? :P

Go for it! (Both of you)

You'll have to fill out and send the admins a brief waiver form since she's under 13; fill-in the following text appropriately:

I authorize my son/daughter, ________________, to participate on the web site //www.dpchallenge.com

I am agreeing to the Terms of Use (found at //www.dpchallenge.com/terms.php ) for him/her, since s/he is underage.

I will be held liable for any actions that s/he takes on the web site.

s/____________

My actual first suggestion would be to sit down with her to vote on some photos (can be your account), and discuss what vote you'd each give and any comments you might make. That will probably let you both know if she's ready ...
