EEEEEKKKKK! I just did one but there are still over 300 waiting! YIKES! A suggestion to fellow Critique Club members, maybe during the challenge if we identify that we are from the Critique Club and give as much detailed information on the shot during the challenge and ask the shooter to uncheck the box if they have it checked we can get this under control again? I'm going to start doing at least 2 indepth Critiques per challenge while the challenge is going on. At least I'm going to try!

Maybe I can help you a wee little bit. How can you go back and unclick critique desired? I had checked it originally when submitting, but on my first 2 entries, I got lot's of comments, and mainly I was having a sizing issue, which I also got a lot of help with (hehe). Anyways, yeah I don't need those cretiqued (well, I probly need it badly Haha) but I would just as soon forget about those and have my latest (3rd) entry done. Anyway, tell me how and I can knock a couple off your list. Every little bit helps. :-)

I think my check box was checked by default.

I wasn't thinking about having my shot critiqued, but when I saw that the box was checked I thought, "Yeah. Why not?" and left it alone.

Could it be an error in the code?

By the way, I just went and un-checked it. Seems to have worked. Besides, you've already commented on it, Neuferland. Thanks.

Also, to the Critique Club Members, if you do decide to Critique the ones of your choice, make sure they are ones that really need Critiquing. Ones you can really offer helpful advice too. Thank KaDi for unchecking your box, the ones I was commenting on today didn't offer to indept information, if you would like me to go back and do a more detailed one, let me know after the challenge and I would be happy to.

Oh and one more thing! Yeah, I know, I'm a pain but these things come to mind as I'm working on more shots, if you see that it's received a lot of comments or an indept critique has already been doen and there is really nothing you can add, tell them just that. Just because we drew the shot for a Critique doesn't mean we HAVE to do an indepth critique if all the comments made during the challenge already covered all the points that needed to be made. :)

How do you "critique the ones of your choice?" For me, when I click on "give me a photo to critique" - it gives a single image. That one stays there until I comment on it. Is there some way to "bypass" the random one selected?

Not if you choose certain ones to Critique during the challenge, before they land in the Critique Que. I've heard members say they don't get to choose the ones they want but if they do at least 2 Critiques on shots DURING the challenge and the photographers unclick the Critique Box it should lower the number of shots left to critique AFTER the challenge is over.

Well, there are a few problems with doing it during the challenge, just to list a few:
1. It's good to gather your own thoughts from others who have commented already, it really gets my mind moving anyways.
2. Critiquing during the challenge would be hard because then you have to vote as well.
3. It's nice to see how they placed with the shot and that way you can tell them why it did good or why it didn't as well as it could have.
4. There are always politics going on during a challenge and its nice to leave a critique after the challenge is over

I do agree though that something does need to change in the Critique Club, I have been thinking of different ways it could be improved. Right now, I think its a little too simplistic and free-floaty. You know a good handful of people (myself included) just click that box saying why not. I think there should be more reason to click than habitually checking the box. What I mean by simplisitc is that it is too easy to get in the habit of checking that box. I think it should be a little tougher (more steps than just a box) to request a Critique. There needs to be a way for those who REALLY want it (or need it) to get it and be top priority, rather than those who check that bow because its neat to get one every now and then (myself guilty again). I guess I am saying there needs to be more of a process and organization.

Just as another suggestion *cough* *just a suggestion)...but I think we could critique a lot better and faster if we had different color shirts, you know...umm....red. Just a thought. LOL!

I find the only real difference between my critiques during a challenge and after a challenge is I might comment on other shots of theirs since I now know who the photographer is. Otherwise, my indepth critiques run about the same.

A thought on the subject...

Today, the "Yes I want an in depth review..." checkbox is right above the list of criteria required to enter a challenge, such as "Yes this picture was taken between ...".

By separating this checkbox a bit more from the criteria, preferrably with a short comment on what this option really means, I think the number would be reduced somewhat.

comments on my Something New 11 entry have given me answers and work to do after the challenge (go reshoot the pic) - box unchecked :)

While I haven't yet ticked that box on all of the 2 challenges I've entered into, I wouldn't mind a critique if someone had time. So maybe a priority option (that would default to the lowest). Say with an option of 1 - lowest to 5 - highest priority. That way, I could select 1, meaning that if someone had time, even if it was 6 months down the track, then I might get a critique on it. But people who really wanted one would get it sooner.

Just thinking, maybe even a comments box on why they want the critique would help, then if it was more 'necessary' then it could be bumped up the list.

This all would require honesty on behalf of all of course.... :P

I like that idea, it may not relieve the amount of shots waiting for critique, but it at least gives those who really REALLY need it or want it to have priority. Honestly, I would put all of mine at ones if that were the case.

Oh, and just to let y'all know, we are ALWAYS looking for volunteers for the Critique Club, just PM Manic or Konador. They will help you.

I think this is a good thread to bounce ideas to improve the CC. I enjoy reading people's suggestions.

I think the idea of someone having to give a reason they want a critique is a great one ... but for maybe an unusual reason ...

It is simply too easy to just as for a critique on everything you enter. All you need to do is tick a box, hey, I don;t care if I get one or not, but what the hell, I'll just tick this and .....

If people have to put a little, and only a little, bit of effort in themselves then it will stop the idle tickers and the people who genuinely do want a critique are more likely to get their request actioned.

it's good that this message came up, because I thought I had to check this box in order to get comments from others (not the critique club in particular)! I'll uncheck the boxes after posting this message!

I don't know how to become a member of the critique club and whether that club needs more members, but I wouldn't mind to offer comments on photos every day (say 2 of 3 a day?). I've graduated as an art therapist and study clinical psychology now, but that doesn't mean that I only value photos on their psychological message :) I've had a great deal of art during my study and I've painted during 6 years and learned a lot on composition, colouring, camera positioning, messages in art, etc. What do you say?? (of am I posting in the wrong topic now..I'm still wandering around here like a puppy, I'm brand new!)

Another suggestion that has been floated before is that you have to have something, anything, in the photographers comments box to get a CCC. "NA" isn't very informative to the critiquer.

That would weed out quite a few really.

I believe that's not just floating, but soaring into the stratosphere ... I believe the CC can "PASS" on any photo which doesn't contain any info in the details field, and/or the exposure info.

I still haven't heard anything, maybe I must send a message to konodor, instead of maniac ?? Isn't he checking his mail often maybe or is he too busy to answer? Oh well, I'll send a PM to konodor..
