AFTER a challenge is over, I see innumerable opportunities for shots that meet the challenge, often better than the one I submitted. After Orange, I saw orange everywhere. After Serendipity, lots of serendipitious things happened in front of my lens. After Rust, I see interesting rust subjects everywhere. Even today, I was walking about with the camera and came across a door with the signs Enter and Exit juxaposed nicely for an entry for Opposites. Why do all these good subjects and opportunities come too late?

I'm glad to see that it happens to other people too!

Not that I'm a Star Wars geek or anything... :o)

Man, the same thing happens to me with the Lottery. I never have the winning numbers the day before the drawing, but have them the day after! LOL

This is whay some of us would like 2 weeks to do a challenge and or have 2 challenges running at a time, kind of overlaping.

The whole point of the challenges as a learning tool is to get to to look at things in new ways, and think about different ways of executing a photo than you have previously. It is entirely sensible that you would then take that new-found perspective and apply it in your subsequent work, assuming it had any interest to you in the first place.

I often try to use a new technique after the challenge, since, as you say, a better opportunity may come along outside the challenge period.

What I find much more tiresome is the apalling frequency with which a decent photo I've taken beautifully fits into the next week's challenge :(

Yeah, AFTER a challenge is over, when I'm looking at the 300 or so entries from other people, suddenly I have TONS of ideas for the challenge, just sitting right in front of me, on my computer screen, while I'm voting!

Because you got the "why didn't I think of that" thing going on after seeing the entries. :) It happens to me all the time.

Funny, I get that same thing going on when I look at Jacko's portfolio...Why didn't I think of keeping a dead fly in my freezer?!?
