After reveiwing some challenges, commenting and what not, it seems that inspiration, or perhaps a fresher look, is needed.

I propose the following:

A no-holds barred, any photograph you have taken within the last five years, no editing restrictions, duel-to-the-death Battle Royale. Everything and anything goes.

The Battle Royale would be structured this way. The top 50 entries in the first round move on to the second round with the same challenge structure as the first, no holds barred, eye gouging and low blows mandatory, etc., with a new photograph taken within the last two years.

The top 25 entries from the second round move to the third round semi-finals with a similar structure only the original photograph used as the basis on the second round image has to be modified and presented differently.

The top ten entries from the semi-finals are put into the final Battle Royale Last One Standing Death Match with a final new photograph modified per the original Battle Royale criteria - the winner coming from the final ten.

No commenting allowed - speed voting allowed.

So, what do you think? Good idea? Bad idea?

Just shut up and go away?

Later,

Tom

I'm either in love with this idea, or with you.

I'm having a difficult time deciding which.

Sounds like a good side challenge. I recently talked to my friend about having a side challenge where only the top half moves on. I think it's a fun idea.

I think this is a great idea! I would love to see what would come out with no restrictions.

Well, to tell the truth, I'd rather see it done as a regular challenge - front page, show everybody what you can do - or not do. I've looked at some of the side challanges and they aren't that much different than the regular challenges.

And this might prove a point in that there are a lot of capable bit wranglers and photographers out there and it would be very interesting to see a wide range of skill and abilities. Maybe we might get some more Expert challenges going as, in my opinon only you understand, some of the challenges have been rather staid with very few truly inventive or unique images.

It may even be inspiring.

think it is a great idea.

not sure Mr L will go for it though, unless he has some of Ms M's brownies, that I knooooooooooow she has tucked away in her suitcase for 7 months down the road! hehe

One of the reasons the 1000th challenge was so great was the removal of time limitations. I would like to see an additional FS each month with no time limits on when the image was captured, or at least larger time limits. I would also set a limit on the number of entries allowed (~400 or so, first come first served) to keep it Free Study sized (1000 entries drained folks quite a bit). It could have more flexible editing rules, too.

I find that I prefer to enter the Free Studies, but feel frustrated that if I get three awesome FS style images in a month (hey, it could happen!) that only one will see a challenge. Knowing that one could go into this month's normal FS, one into the Free For All Study this month, and the third could go into a future Free For All Study would be great.

The other benefit: we would all get to see MORE of each other's BEST WORK in the challenges.

If the SC felt strongly, I suppose a rolling 6 or 12 or 18 month time limit could achieve nearly the same effect.

No brownies were purchased in Amsterdam by yours truly, magic or otherwise. And you have to love a city where you can smoke pot in bars but have to step outside to smoke a tobacco cigarette. :-)

It would be an additional challenge--you wouldn't lose anything, and you wouldn't have to enter it.
