From last night's Italian sausage, I give you:

All the orignal really needed was some contrast but this is a experimental thread after all :)

More playing with Topaz Filters... this was a 20 Minute Experiment (wasn't too careful about background removal)

Nik CEP3 -> Midnight
Topaz Adjust -> Psycho
Topaz Simplify -> Buzzsim
PSP -> High Pass
PSP -> Clarity

That's it... I'm on my way to Fry's for a bigger Wacom!

I do wonder what Frank Lloyd Wright would have thought of CAD/CAM, etc, etc, and
even all those amateurs now fooling around with his designs with a stroke or
two of a computer program.

This was an experiment to see what could be done with a very poor original. The conditions at the zoo were terrible: bright Florida sun, lots of shadows and vegetation, and a chain link fence to shoot through.

Somehow in my limited scope of concepts, "Drill" and "Potato" are not used in the same sentence.......8>)

I'm pretty sure I'm going have to break down and buy this after my free trial's up.

This has always been one of my favorite images and look at what Topaz has done for it.

Is this really something, or what???? LOL???

I think it looks much more earthy and real.....to me, anyhow....

Anyone see any benefits of Topaz Clean yet? Is it best just for portrait work? I'm thinking about adding something to Adjust and I was trying to decide between Clean and Simplify. But I think I am leaning towards Simplify... I have not been able to come up with any fun photos using Clean so far.

Interesting that you say that, colorcarnival because here is a nice little abstract that used Clean as part of the mix. but I also use Simplify a LOT, far more than the Clean...so no recommendations one over the other from me...

There were so many ways to process this image that I kept going for hours - here are just three.

It is funny that you mention that... It does seem that Topaz Labs is doing some overlap in their plug-ins. Makes it hard to decide (or more money for them). Reality is that Simplify and Clean should be one.

I just did this with Clean + some Nik CEP3 complete filters. Clean makes graphic work easy.

Clean works for all kinds of things

I think Simplify lends itself towards the painting/line art side. Clean appears to fit the Cartoon/Illustration (Graphic Artist) side for Web work or literature. I'm now thinking I need to grab Clean as I am heading down the Grapic Arts path. Sux because I bought Simplify, that I and have Corel Painter for the "Painting" stuff.

Both of these used Clean for their unique flare. Definitely not for every photo, but fun sometimes.

Thanks all for your input! I am going to take some time to look at your photos to get a better idea of what the software can do before I make my final decision.

The package look good, but I bought only adjust, as I couldn't justify $130 for the whole package right now. I may snag clean sometime soon, while it's at the intro price.

I've not used Clean and have only used Simplify once or twice, I think. I have found that most normal Topaz settings do NOT work with serious doses of bokeh - very shallow DOF. Tends to add WAY too much noise, but then that may be where Simplify would work. Perhaps I should download it and try it?

I love what Topaz does to bird feathers. Seems half of my images in this side challenge are of birds.

It's free to try, so can't hurt! :)
