The Altamont Concert

The police eviction at the I-Hotel

The State Police raid on my workplace:

Getting hit across the eye with a big stick.

Running headfirst into a fencepost on my bicycle.

Getting hit broadside by a car while on my bicycle (twice).

An interview with my Draft Board.

The Stanford/Foothill Primary Care Associate Program.

About ten of my former coworkers ... :-(

Wow... where to start?

unconscious for 10 minutes 140 feet under water on scuba off the coast of Italy.

motorcycle accident at 70mph on the Interstate in New York during rush hour

12 years on nuclear submarines.

electrocuted when I was 10

8 foot blue shark hit me and pushed me through the water to see what I was. By the time he circled around to eat me, I was climbing the reef to get out of the water (very painful, but better than being lunch)

Survived a nightmare of a dive operation in the Arctic Circle, north of Russia during the Cold War. My dive parnter was knocked unconscious and drowned, but we got him back on board and revived him... Thanks to the 29 degree Arctic water temperature!

Survived cartwheeling down Bromley Mountain at 60mph, ending by hitting my head (no helmet) on a dead tree stump. I would not have survived if it had been a living tree.

Survived six knee surgeries and an ankle reconstruction, and survived pneumonia twice.

Survived a mean older sister growing up (She is nice now!)

I suppose that is enough...

I can still shoot photos.
Most of the places that have been busted still ache more when the weather changes.
Most of the things were lots of fun, but would be seen as reckless and pretty stupid by today's crowd. Being struck by lightning a couple of times, but not directly, probably were the closest to the end for me. There are a number of falls, road rash, and other things that should have done me in. Doing donuts on a 400 Hp beach buggy at 80 mph with no roll cage or seat belts was probably one of the more stupid fun things.

Idiot classmate was trying to juggle the .5 liter plastic bottle of mercury with another bottle. Of course he dropped the mercury and in a flash of quicksilver it filled our 6th grade classroom. If you've never seen a large quantity of mercury spill, let's just say it's impressive. We didn't evacuate the classroom. We helped the teach clean up the mercury, and for the next 6 months most of the boys would dig in the cracks of the floor for a bit of mercury to rub on a silver quarter or dime to make it shine pretty. So far I've made it to 53, but my memory is rapidly leaving me. What were we talking about? Maybe I need to go to the bathroom.....

Damn, they still trying to tap those soviet telco cables in the 80's?

Yeah, I remember salvaging the mercury when our fever thermometer broke, and playing with it for weeks. Also scraped the radioluminescent paint off the face of a broken 30's clock to reuse. Probably gnawed some lead along the way as well, but I'm just nife! Oops, I mean fine...

as soon as I can find an amazing deal. I wonder if anyone else would want to come trekking through Mexico
04/28/2009 10:26:47 AM · #66
Trekking through Mexico sounds awesome! Bet they have pork chops on sale all around too :p

I survived 5 years of playing with fire, and I've just done a pyrotechnics course too, so we'll see if I survive the next 5 years of playing with fire and explosives :)

I am not sure you can catch the flu from a pork chop.

Off to google it lol

ohhh edited to add: Purple, not sure you can get a flight out of England right now to Mexico, I know that most of the airlines are refusing to fly there and are trying to get all the people back from there.

lol I think you'd be perfectly safe, but what with the mass hysteria breaking out, I'm just looking for an opportunity to cheaply fill up my freezer... :)

Shame about the flights from England... Not sure about flying into the centre of a pandemic anyway - guess it depends on how cheap the flight was :)

Yup, near my house in Illinois they used to fog the fields with a toxic cloud-dispensing tractor, we loved to chase after it and play in the cloud.

I hear from a source in another thread that tequila solves all sorts of contamination, so wash the chops down the that and your set :-) Remember to only partially cook the chops cause it tastes better blue or rare :-))

Edit to add- I only did it because of the Swine Flu scare of 1976. (I survived that too).

According to most reports, Tamiflu is extremely effective against this strain.
