This question has most likely been posted before but I don't have first hand knowledge of it and if it has maybe I searched wrong.

Every now and again you run across "This Account Has Been Cancelled" and "Sorry, this account is no longer active." so when that happens I always wonder why.

Could SC put a reason to go along with the notification of cancellation, something like "this person was a boob and needed to be removed" or "once again this person launched an attach on

the wrong person and has since been removed" or maybe something like "due to the fact that this person knew everything, criticized everyone, shared nothing, and was generally an ass to

the entire world we found it necessary to remove them from this site."

Something along those lines would do just fine.

Again I was just wondering if this was possible to do and it would help some of us who wonder why.

Gee I hope I'm not the only one.

MAX!

Couldn't possibly be a valid reason. I'm still here.

While it would be fun/nice/interesting/nosy/etc. to know why an account was canceled, I'm pretty sure that they don't put any info there because there is no need to know. Knowing doesn't help anyone, and isn't exactly a positive addition.

At least, that's how I see it.

Not to mention liability issues. If the site starts posting that specific individuals were cancelled because they were bad people, it could wind up being a slander or defamation lawsuit, in this sue happy country.

Sometimes things are just private matters....

Sometimes people who no longer want to participate here choose to close their accounts too.

My account was canceled because of the flood of hairy butt pictures I posted into the forums.

Oh wait, that hasn't happened yet, never mind that SC. I'm not planning anything! I'll be good, I promise!

Actually, very few accounts are closed at the SC's initiative. Most closed accounts are due to people either moving on, not being very active, etc. and asking us to close it.

man - i thought my account closed everytime i closed my browser. hmmmm.

i'm gonna have to look into the reason behind that.

I was mainly asking because some people leave you a snarky comment and when you look them up after the challenge is over to see what they entered so you can ascertain weather or not they

hold some photographic genius over you, they're gone and you can't even see if they had something to offer or if they were just another ass blowing off steam. That's all, it doesn't

happen often but it does happen and it would be kind of nice to see a reason why they're no longer around. Some times it because they have two accounts, or they're just trolling all the

time and causing trouble for others, or they run a muck with SC, and Yes some people just leave but I think it would be nice to post a polite message as to why they are no longer

associated with DPC.

I have been involved with administrating several sites that *did* have to chop users regularly for various abuses, such as cheating and violating ToS strictures, to name two common reasons. It just doesn't work to publicize the reasons why they were axed. It causes comment, it brings out negative energy in the forums, and so forth. Particularly vexing was that whenever we posted our "reasons" a slew of people would crop up attacking those reasons, calling us "Nazis", whatever. So we stopped doing that. This was many years ago, and no site I've been involved with since has followed this practice.

It's basically nobody's business but the malefactor's and the moderators' as to why someone was dropped, IMO.

What I've noticed lately are some pretend "closed accounts". A few times recently I've clicked on thumbs in threads to be told that the account no longer exists, but if I click on the name of the shot owner it takes me to the account just fine. I nearly panicked a couple days ago because it told me that one of the big names here was gone! Glad it was just a "fooled ya" moment.

This happens when a person goes from having a portfolio as a member to becoming a registered user. Then, if you click on a thumb that was in that person's portfolio, you can't see the full size image because the person's portfolio doesn't 'exist' as a registered user.

I know at least one was a member, because I had a wander through the portfolio while I was there. I'll see if I can remember who/where it was and see if it's still doing it.

Despite some of the fanfare and strife when some people leave, there are some people who just wander off because they're done.

IMNSHO, it's a good and decent thing to let anyone who leaves quietly to their peace.

Edited for grammatical butchery.....8>)

It is weird when someone's account has been removed after they have participated in some challenges. Their challenge entries remain (which is good), but you can't look them up by name to see their other challenge entries, nor can you search for them by username under Photographer Profiles.

A reason is not needed IMO but hat would be nice is to stop any image links to dead images from been active links.... Annoys me to click on an image in my fav's or an old thread only to see it's not available.

That only happens when the photo was a portfolio photo as opposed to a challenge entry. I'd rather have a dead link from a thumbnail than have the thumbnail just disappear from my favorites!

Well if not being active was a reason for closing an account mine would be toast. When was the last time any of you saw me lurking around?

Sorry, I wasn't clear -- we don't look and say, "Oh, they're inactive, let's close their account," we get an email or ticket saying something along the lines of, "I registered 4 years ago and never used the account or come here, can you delete it please?"

and, you're here now, that is all that matters. :P

Yeah, I know. I was not meaning to drop the thumb... just make it not clickable if there is no larger image under it..... The challenge entries do have a larger one, so they should be unchanged... Only the ones where the larger image is gone would be non clickable, but still present.
