Your right about the proper rights, that's why I requested the release forms. Sorry I misunderstood you.

I guess they are look over the legality of it. If they are not willing to allow it to be put up on DPCPrints.com then I will have to find a way to send the Print Size file to everyone but at 13.1 MB it can't be emailed. I guess we'll cross that bridge when or if we get there.

I think if there's a way to sell it at DPC Prints from Langdon's account, or a generic (non-member account), so that the print proceeds go only to DPC (maybe with all sales at the base price), then I think DPC already has a license to use any posted work for "promotional purposes" or however the specific language is phrased in the TOS.

The alphabet posters were different because people submitted to the project directly, were limited in number, and all have the option to sell the images for profit.

And no, creating a "derivative" work by flaming with Godzilla would stll be a copyright violation -- the right to make derivative works is one of those protected by copyright law -- though making something which constitutes critical commentary or is a parody is allowed ...

The bolded part is what I was suggesting. As for the godzilla-flaming, that's parody for sure, jejejeâ„¢

Gmail currently allows up to 20 MB -- those who do not already have a Gmail account can create one just for this.

Yousendit.com works too. It holds the file, sends an email to the person, and they go pick it up.

Make it available for download, allowed only by those who participated in the challenge.

I don't mean to be a stickler, but if you are going to print it a different way than DPC prints, wouldn't you have to have a release signed with the new mode of printing since only DPC prints is mentioned in the current release form? Just thought I would mention it before you get all the releases, then have to do it all over again if you can't sell it as a DPC Print.

Not sure if this is right, but was thinking about it and thought I would mention it.

You should make a photomosaic. That would be awesome. Probably hard too...

Hi everyone. I have not forgot about the 1000th Challenge Collage, I have been without internet for seven days so I'm just now going through my emails. I received a reply from SC on how we may be able to get this project to print. Below is the email I sent to the Admin and General accounts under the contact us option. Also is the reply. So hopefully we can get this to print.

To reply to the Site Council on this issue, simply reply to this email. Please do not send a PM or open a new ticket via the Contact Page referencing this issue, as doing so is likely to delay our response.

Scott,

We think its a losing proposition to get releases from everyone, or even significant amounts of everyone. But we think we have a way to get this printed.. has to do with site promotion which means we need Langdon to look at this. We're going to bring it to his attention and hopefully he'll have an answer for us all.

----- Original Message (DPC:15950) -----

Langdon,
I have created a print size collage to commemorate DPChallenge.com[s] official 1000th challenge (challenge_ID#1005) and would like to enlist your help obtaining photographer release or non-release.

I announced the collage in the following thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=886128 but because the title of the thread was not clear a lot of people did not view, making it hard to obtain a release from all 1130 photographers that entered this historic challenge.

Seeing the mistake in naming the thread above I introduced another thread //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=886402&page=1#5405203, which should receive more attention. But it̢۪s still a slow process and this is where I need your help if you find it appropriate.

Is there a way you could highlight the thread green and/or put a link in the Site News box to the left of the homepage so the photographers that entered can have a chance to read what the collage is about? You can view the release form in the second thread above.

I want to put the collage on DPCPrints.com so that anyone can purchase a piece of DPChallenge.com history. I don̢۪t want any monetary compensation for the work I put into this project, all I̢۪m asking is that you help me get the photographers permission or non-permission so I can go forward with uploading it to DPCPrints.com. It would be nice if DPCPrints.com could also offer a discount rate as well seeing that there could be a potential of 1130 sales.

This contact PM has been sent to DPChallenge - Administrative Inquiry and General Inquiry. Please contact me via PM so we can discuss this matter. -Thanks!

Regards,
Scott Whiddon

That would be awesome if Langdon approved it! It seems like he's a tough guy to reach in times like this....
