Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get a laptop soon. I'm wondering if anyone uses a tablet (swivel screen w/ keyboard and such) for photo editing, and also for your other stuff. How do you like it, what are suggestions?

Any and all advice welcome,

Thanks,
Ryan

I dont own one but a few months ago a guy sitting next to me on a train had one. Immediately I went into nosy neighbor mode and picked his brain for the rest of the ride. He swore by his (which if I remember was an HP) but he also cautioned that they are a big premium financially, so not worth it if your not going to use the handwriting feature. Not sure if youre thinking about using it as a wacom tablet, but I would check to see if the touch part has the accuracy/dexterity you want for that if you do. Also, the tablets are more fragile than a regular laptop - so thats something to consider as well.

I use an IBM Thinkpad at work. I love being able to have the computer with me no matter where I am in the plant. But for photo editing it would not be good. Screen is small and graphics are not the best quality. I don't vote using it. I would never even think about editing a photo using it. But for everything else it is great.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback, i was thinking about using it mostly for photo editing when hooked up to an external monitor, so it works like the fancy wacom's, but I'm not sure yet, appreciate the responses.

I use one for work but not for photo editing, I do use the hand writing feature when adding comments while walking around houses but like soup I end up fixes some of the text.... Some day I may add PS to it just to see how it works but I think you may be money ahead by just adding a plug in tablet, they seem to have a more accurate aim than the tablet PC's.

If you have the budget, you might look into Wacom's Cintiq units ....
