I'm not going to post any examples; you could go to her portfolio and pick any dozen at random, and they'd be perfectly presentable as examples of her talent. I am going to post a couple of observations:
Germaine is an astonishingly good observer of things. Simple things, like the wall that Deb mentioned. Like light. Like night time (sounds weird, but have a look through her stuff). Like the meeting of land and sea. She is without question the best here at seeing and photographing architectural details ... windows, moldings, doors, glimpses of this and that often with the inclusion of some small softening human presence, directly or by implication. She recognizes the whimsy and the wit of the street. And Germaine is a wonderful observer and commentator when it comes to other people's work. Always generous, but never shallow. A quiet, thoughtful and very clever person, she seems to do everything well, and yet never makes a fuss about it. Her photographs are never about her; it's as if she is an invisible presence documenting a world that never sees her. She'd make a brilliant private eye. Or angel.
If I could spend a day hanging around with someone from DPC I've never met, Germaine would be right at the top of the list.
Edit to add congratulations to Karen for continuing to shine the light on the most interesting and substantial members of this community. Yet another great choice.
