Welcome to this week's "Member of the Week" post. Every week I will post the name of a member and a link to their profile. This will be our Member of the Week. Go have a look at their profile page and/or portfolio. Enjoy their photos, leave some comments and most of all post one or two of their photos in this thread so others can see them and enjoy them. If you like you can also write a little blurb saying why you enjoy this member's photos.

This week's Member of the Week is Germaine. And here are a couple of her photos.

I've shared a side-challenge or two with Germaine and have grown to admire her skills with street photography. I'll always associate her name with photos of bicyclists and other people in motion, such as these:

<-- edited post to add another

She's also a lover of the ironic or unusual detail, window corners, "found" lighting, etc. Here's a few more from her portolio I really like:

Congrats, Germaine!

Not only have I been in more than one side challenge with Germaine, but I've had the honor and privilege of shooting with her in person!! A very gracious soul with a great eye and a wonderful artistic vision.

She does blur, black and white, street, layers... you name it.

And she does have a favorite window/wall - fun to see it in different ways!

I'm not going to post any examples; you could go to her portfolio and pick any dozen at random, and they'd be perfectly presentable as examples of her talent. I am going to post a couple of observations:

Germaine is an astonishingly good observer of things. Simple things, like the wall that Deb mentioned. Like light. Like night time (sounds weird, but have a look through her stuff). Like the meeting of land and sea. She is without question the best here at seeing and photographing architectural details ... windows, moldings, doors, glimpses of this and that often with the inclusion of some small softening human presence, directly or by implication. She recognizes the whimsy and the wit of the street. And Germaine is a wonderful observer and commentator when it comes to other people's work. Always generous, but never shallow. A quiet, thoughtful and very clever person, she seems to do everything well, and yet never makes a fuss about it. Her photographs are never about her; it's as if she is an invisible presence documenting a world that never sees her. She'd make a brilliant private eye. Or angel.

If I could spend a day hanging around with someone from DPC I've never met, Germaine would be right at the top of the list.

Edit to add congratulations to Karen for continuing to shine the light on the most interesting and substantial members of this community. Yet another great choice.

See how unobtrusive Germaine is? One of the classiest people here and yet hardly anyone notices her. Thank goodness for Karen's Member of the Week thread, and for the discerning people who give it a wee bump when required.
