Now i acknowledge that this has been discussed at some length before, but as i haven't spotted a thread more recent than september last year, i thought it might be worth tentatively bringing it up again. It occured to me in the rust challenge, that the standard grey background clashes a bit unpleasantly with a subject that is particularly browny (i.e rusty) in colour. Now white on the other hand, seems to work very well.

So, this is my proposal. Is it possible, on the submission page to be able to have a select your background colour check box, from a range of say half a dozen varieties (such as white, black, red, and perhaps taupe because i don't know what it is and cyan because it's a lovely word)? or would this prove to be a total git to implement in practical terms and i should be told to depart forthwith with such silly ideas?

i think having a neutral BG like grey is fine, and don't think it would be pleasing to vote on images where every one has a different color BG

you can add a border to your image with any color you'd like.

From now on, when you get a negative comment about borders, you will be able to blame it all on soup!

Hahahaha...:0)

I agree Redmoon - I'm often disappointed when I upload and find pics have lost a lot of impact against the grey background. I don't
like the look of manually adding a border to the image - it looks
messy when thrown in amongst all the other entries

I'm convinced it's the only reason I'm doing so badly ;-p

Compared to what?
I thought the grey background used here was chosen because it is the same as what people see behind their photos in photoshop. Sometimes I like the way photos look against a dark bg like pbase has, but doesn't it depend on the photo?

Well, for instance, compared to Windows Explorer and Picture / Fax viewer. This all only occured to me when i was browsing through my top 3 choices for rust, and i actually favoured an image because it looked less dull with a white background. But I agree, ultimately it does depend on the particular photo, which is why a choice of background colour might be nice. it's like you wouldn't buy a pink painting if you had orange walls. But then, I agree with Soup that it might be an unpleasant experience having different colours behind each image when in a heavy voting session. The border idea is not really a solution i'd prefer because a) it leaves you with a smaller image of stuff going on, and b) no bugger claims to like them.

I don't know. I'm only being picky. anyway, i was only really thinking aloud, and i'm sure nothing will come from it.

IF no one likes borders and the colors chosen for that, what makes you think someone will make good background choices, too. I can see the comments. Would look better on the hot pink background. Great picture, but the neon green background detracts from the portrait of your cat sleeping (C:
