I used to enter challenges there every now and then, went to check it today and found this message:

Sorry, FotoFight has been discontinued.

Yup, it's gone, no warning to anyone, no thanks for the work, it simply went offline.

I wonder for how long, they had a lot of members there.

A lot of members but not a lot of participation, some challenges wouldn't even get 3 entries.

Yeah your right about that. I was over there for a little while but the way they had it set up was like a blog and I think that hurt them some.

I have to say that for as long as I have been here on this site I can't really stand a lot of the things that go on here and I seriously think this will be my last year here. But DPC does have one thing that I like, and that's how well the site is set up. The forums, challenges, the way everything is displayed is just perfect. It's not cheesy like many sites and it's not very hard to navigate your way around. Other than that there's not much here anymore. I think a lot of people feel that way and those I do know feel that way are already gone.

Wow. If YOU didn't even know about it, well, that's really sad.

Darn. You should have left earlier. You're part of the "not much here anymore." LOL Now seriously, what's yer beef with the place? It's not like you're a long time member. I've heard your attitude out of some of the long time members and I kinda understand where they're coming from. You know, the place really was great till all these other peeps came barging in here.
I wouldn't know, I'm a short timer like yourself. I still like the place.

I, as well, think that this place has a great deal to offer. It's all in what you choose to put in, and get out of it.

One thing that I really like about DPC is that it doesn't cater to over-inflated egos and senses of entitlement. They exist here, of course, but it's usually not long until one gets put in their place, and I like that aspect.

There is a GREAT DEAL here. You just have to want to find it. If you don't want to find it, you move on, and someone moves in to fill the void. No loss, no foul. People will find where they belong one way or another, and life goes on.

hahaha. Does that mean you agree with me, disagree with me, or are just shocked that someone would dare say something like that?

Long stories and no time to tell them. It's nothing against anyone really but there are so many things that just get under my skin. Don't get me wrong there are some awesome members here and I would bend over backwards but there are a lot of things in my mind that should be changed different.

I disagree with you. It's a generally accepted fact at DPC that I'm totally awesome and therefore entitled to so much more than anybody else.

Mexican martini please. I always thought FotoFight was kind of lame. :~P

I entered 2 or 3 in a short span of time then wandered off, visited now and then, then eventually totally forgot about it. I know that there were quite a lot of DPCers there, though.

I've tried other sites, but the one constant for me since going digital has been my membership here. What I saw here convinced me to pick up a camera again and the membership her inspired me to work through my fear of photographing people. There are some annoyances, like coming to talk photography and finding every forum thread on the main page is about something other than photography, but that's not enough to push me away. As for reasons to stay, just look at The 5 DPC picks that inspire you the most. There is some outstanding photography going on here, even if it doesn't always rise to the top of a challenge. Plus... when the next Joey Lawrence comes along I'll once again be able to say I remember offering this kid some advice on his portraits back when he was a newbie.

And... now that the bar is open, I'd like a gray goose martini straight up with two garlic stuffed olives.

Considering I was Admin there for quite a long time .. yeah .. pretty darn sad! Last few weeks I hardly checked in anyway, no one was around. It's time had come! A site like that has to be updated regularly and someone around to make changes happen as needed and that for sure wasn't happening for a long time.

Merlot please!
