I hate this....10 comments....9 of them glowing comments from people like Karmat and Limerick...and only one person with any constructive criticism...and yet my score is sub 5! Too bad there are over 1000 entries otherwise I would expect more comments to tell me what's wrong!

Mostly a stable score now, with 0.04 drift higher in the last 100 votes. Good comments. I expect to finish at #126.

I would note a fairly wide reaction to my image ... possibly based on monitors, personal taste and browser rendering. At this point, I think the reaction variance flows from color managed vs. non-color managed browsers. I checked various browsers (on several monitors) before submitting. Firefox with "color management" enabled and Safari were different from Firefox w/o color management and Camino. The last two having no color management. There is no ICC profile attached to my image, and maybe I should have. But, that may have increased the variance, rather than narrowed. Hey, I'm not complaining. My score is very close to my expectations. It's great to get such a large sample of views, votes and comments. This will help me on future challenges.

It would be awfully coincidental to have a comment from one person that has previously voted or did not vote at the exact same time you get a vote from someone else for a 4.

Lots of votes and comments falling on these images. Doesn't make sense to receive a complimentary comment and a vote of "4". Some people do vote and comment in different time frames. (I do!) It's not a safe assumption to connect the vote and the comment. There may be some vote fine tuning going on at the same time, which would not be visible to the image author. Lots of variables here to consider.

200 votes in the first 20 hours. One could extrapolate that voting rate to 1680 votes if the hot pace continues. (Won't happen!) But, maybe there will be 800 to 1000 votes per image cast.

Interesting challenge this is! I've never gotten even close to that many comments on a photo that didn't have a really high score. Or this many votes so soon. And I was thinking there would be tons of people posting that they had 7's and uber-high 6's, but the scores seem pretty average, huh? (Except for Simms. . .way to go!) Verrrrrrrrrrry Interesting! :)

Perhaps it just takes a moment to look deeper to see what the photographer wants to share with us. I just made a very long comment on a photo that I almost did not give a second look at and then I stopped dead in my tracks when I spotted an element within the photo that the photographer wanted to share.

I am refraining from any more details but a *hidden gem* can be just that - hidden until you uncover or see what makes it special. That is how I am looking at this challenge and having a happy time strolling through what others want to share.

Stats:
You have rated 1126 of 1128 images (100%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 69 images (6%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.1199.

I guess that could happen. I never really thought of that. I am not getting to worked up about it. (after all it is only a virtual contest)

:)

I think there may be some 8's with this many entries the spectrum is bound to open up - isn't it?

Here is how I rate photos..........Please tell me if I am a jerk or wrong for this.
I make an initial run through all the shots and give pretty average scores. Then I go back through a few more times to fine tune.
I may originally give a photo a 5 or 6 and sometimes by the end it may be up to a 7-8.
I try not to score the first 200 (at least in this challenge) to high because while I may see something that i feel is really good, (maybe an 9-10) at that point, I might see another shot that I see after 400 photos that really is withough a doubt a 10. I feel like I am cheating that person if I have handed out a bunch of 9's to photos that maybe don't come close to their 10 photo. That is why i will go back through quite a few times and move things around. I past challenges I have given a photo a 7 and it ended up at a 9.

So, that is how I rate things.... am I alone in this or do many of you fellow photographers do similar things??
