Dear SC,
To avoid threads like these, and these,
cant we let someone moderate posts from new members?
The "report post" feature is good, but a bit passive.
Anyways, just a suggestion. Not a big deal. |

I agree. Can't there be a ruling that they can't post or start threads until they have been a member for a set time...a week....a fortnight...or whatever! It would cut a lot of spam...no spammer wants to have to wait before they spill their spawn all over the place!

I'd be curious how many serious new members post within the certain time periods of a day, week, fortnight. Is it worth silencing them to silence a couple spammers?
Site Counsel is usually very quick to lock/delete the threads and kill the accounts of spammers. |

The spam only comes from registered users and there are very few of those. Maybe moderate the first 2 to reduce workload? But I agree, there are very few spammers and they're easy to spot and avoid. |

I would say that there is an increasing need for some measures against spam, based on the volume of posts today. |

Have a look at the member list.... The registered users are vastly more numerous then paying members.... |

I meant that the activity rate of registered users is much lower so there wouldn't be much of a burden to check the posts. |

Forum posts are already moderated. ;-)
Even with today's flurry, we get about 1 spammer every two or three days. It's actually a very low percentage of new visitors, and not worth the downside of discouraging newbies. My very first interaction with DPC was to post a forum question as a registered user. |

Moderating newly registered people's post would actually end up being more work. Instead of a post or two every few days, we would have several posts a day to go through. This would undoubtedly slow down other tasks. :) |

With my ADD, I glaze over trying to sort through the TOS/Rules before I can figure out if we're supposed to report blatant & obvious SPAM....so I just do.
I take a minute first to look and see if the person talking about this fantastic vacation spot is brand new with one post.....and then rat 'em out if they are.....8>)
It just amazes me that people have the unmitigated gall to be so obvious and rude.
In most cases these days, nobody trusts someone that comes out of nowhere and has a fantastic deal......just for YOU!!!

they obviously have a lot of extra time on their hands to make good use of their unmitigated gall as well :)

My idea was to hang out here for a couple years so I could get in good and gain access to lots of PM's. Then I would drop the viagra bomb on everybody. But now viagra isn't a big deal since they hand it out free on cruise ships... |

doesn't that cause a major issue with widespread snapping of banana hammock elastics ?
or does everyone wear towels around their waists ?

They would not be doing it if they didn't make money off it. |

Somebody makes money off of it, but I bet it isn't the person that is doing the spamming. Usually those people are working for the "promise" of riches and glory as they work 2 hours a week from home and earn $5000-10000 a month.
I am curious to check those lifeboats on cruise ships to see how many old people are doing it. Old people are the ones that click on spam and buy it anyway. |

I dont wanna catch them. They are like deers that I find looking into the headlights at night when I am cruising on the DPC highway. The collision is a killer for browsing speed:-)
ETA: spell check.

I'm in agreement with Shannon... there are not that many of them, and they get squashed so darn fast that it's not funny. Usually someone reports the thread within minutes, and the account is nuked in a few minutes more. Mostly, they don't come back. I can only remember a couple really persistent ones over the years.

I think we should track their IP and blow up their computer with sonic wave blasts. |

Well, we have done IP bans, but you've *really* got to earn that one ;-) |

Somebody needs to write some code that creates a sonic wave blast that blows up their computer now. That would be true revenge! |
