Back to scores, voters seem to hate it, except for my commenters, who love it...

The challenge is "Calendar", and as far as I know, you can put everything you want on a calendar... so it's the same as a "Free Study" |

I know I am getting a bunch of sub 5 votes
It be becuase of the title or not is a mystery to me. Nobody ha yet to say.
However from experience, I have a hunch it is. I should have read the instructions more carefully and stop trying to be so creAtive |

Couldn't agree more. |
You are forgetting the obvious: that when you are looking at a real calendar you already know what kind of calendar it is (one on reptiles, cats, dogs, mountains etc) so the only logical way to get that across is in the title. Otherwise you are not giving your photo the sense of place that it deserves. If it does NOT have the month in the title at all, that is another thing altogether. :)

So why not let the photography speak for itself? Be sure, I'll vote on the photos, not on the title, but I also vote on how far the shot meets the challenge. If it needs an explanation, it meets the challenge less than a shot that carries the feeling connected to the specific month without extra information.

Have you considered that some calendars have subjects to which a specific month is not apparent in the photo for the month? Or that in some parts of the world you could have the seasons be the opposite of what we have in Northern Hemisphere? The description did not say "just the month only in the title" and it did not say to represent your local area either....

I think you are missing the "challenge" idea behind DPChallenge. |

Ummm, the challenge is to have the best photo that meets the challenge description. Which they do as long as the month is in the title.... even with extra text to show what kind of calendar it is, just like a calendar has a title on the front with a photo. You see very few calendars if any that are simply photos with with months underneath.... no calendar title on the front or back and no titles on the months either...
I know you enjoy arguing (as do I, sometimes) but this one seems a little to obvious. :)

I've had a couple of challenges now that I couldn't decide between 2 photos, and then I sit and second-guess my choice when it doesn't do that well. That's fine, I can handle that. The biggest problem is there's no way of knowing whether the other one would have done any better--that's what bothers me the most.

I know that feeling! Had 2 images that I liked for this and have gone with one. Will post the other in an outakes thread afterwards but the not knowing always bothers me. Just put it from your mind and embrace the one you chose :D
My scores are turned off, im too much of a chicken to watch. Was on 5.8 when I woke up this morning. |

Ye, but the challenge for me is also to challenge myself to create a shot that doesn't need the extra text.
BTW, I have one of those calendars with just the month on each page hanging in my office :) |

Just read some of the comments regarding titles versus the challenge description.
It does say in the description: "Your title should be the month to which your photo belongs."
Personally, I think some are afraid to let their photo stand by itself with a one word title. bock-Bock-BOCK. Chicken! :-P
This is after all, more of a Free Study anyway. So in the end it won't really matter. Kind of like Brown Ribbon Deja Vu II. |

Was hoping this was a killer shot that would bring in a 6+, but I'll be pleased for it to stay above a 5.5.

Heh, can you hook me up with that card company? LOL (just kidding)
I didn't enter and hope my original comment about the titling didn't piss people off but like eyewave said in a previous post, I believe the image should speak for itself and following the rules has always been such an important thing here. Although I voted high on a good photo, disregarding the title, the description says "the month should be the title" not be included in the title. Ok, I'm going to run out of here before the rotten tomatoes start hitting me in the back.
