Jeb - nice new toy! And Katherine, too.

Dang. I need a new toy. I'm contemplating a Trek FX 7.5 WSD or 7.6 WSD. Neither will take pictures and I don't think I can either of them here in Germany, though. Still, I've got the bug....

'Grats on the new toys, kids! Enjoy!

You can in England without any problem. Probably a heap more expensive than elsewhere, though.

I may have to look in England. I can't even find one in the giant bike store I used to go to in San Antonio. I think they only made six of 'em and they must all be in the UK....

But my current Trek will suffice for awhile yet. Frame hasn't broken where it's dented and if it were going to break, I think it would have done so by now.

About 1 week on final Ok's on purchasing house.
400D sucks, I had to sell 5D and good lenses, and flash to purchase house.

Give yourself a pat on the back, Alan - you've fixed yourself up with a job and a house in an economic and work climate that's going up the oojit. Feelin' for you with the camera loss.

oh man alan, do you need some chocolate or something? i would be in THE grouchiest mood in your position

It's not what I did, not what I had to give up. It's the wait, the dance with the banks, and the $1,000 it will cost if it does not close before the 30th of this month ( the price I pay, for the deal I got), I'm scared shitless, but well worth it all if it goes threw.

So......

I did my first official, semi-pro portrait shoot this afternoon. My boss's wife asked me to see if we could get together and surprise him with a portrait of her and the kids for Father's Day.

She was exasperated and disappointed 'cause she knows we didn't get anything.

I am *NOT* happy with all that it lost uploading it. The vivid colors and the sharpness I have on the 8x10 matted print I have sitting here just blow this away.

Those two boys are........well, let's just leave it at "Something Else"....LOL!!!

It was a stone hoot, more than anything watching the kids driving Jeanette nuts.

Jeb, first of all let me congratulate you on your NEW camera, good choice :)

Second, I'm a little confused by the above statement. Did you mean that you were unable to get any photos at all or you got nothing else worth looking at after this one you posted?

Third, when you said "I am *NOT* happy with all that it lost uploading it." did you mean that the picture lost quality in the transfer onto your computer from the camera or just from your editing program to the site?

There are settings in your camera in the menu under the shooting menu sub section colour space that you can change to AdobeRGB and then what you see in the camera will be exactly the same as what you see on your screen, providing you use photoshop, that is. Oh and I don't know if you have a monitor calibration tool but they rock and really help you to see the true colours.

Now for the fourth thing, I think the photo is fantastic. It's hard to get children to co-operate for photos at the best of times and I have trouble even still with my own every time I need to redo their head shots, because it's only dad so why not fool around, right? Sheesh!!

It really only takes one great shot to seal the deal and this one is great. Way to go big guy!!!

MAX!

Some days I forget that you cannot always say what you mean 'cause it gets lost in translation......8>)

Thanx! So far, I love it. I got it from jbsmithana who went right to the front of my all-time heroes list.

Nah! What I meant to convey was that Jeanette *knew* that we didn't get anything....I was fairly sure I got this shot.

I got an absolutely smashing 8X10 file that will bring a tear to your eye it's so beautiful when it printed out.

The little file I have for e-mailing is lovely, too.

When I uploaded it here, it looks *REALLY* flat!!!!!

I don't quite get that......I've had some real issues with that of late.

Some images I upload just don't have the pop that they do here......even in the smaller files I save and upload that are 400-800KB and look fine here.

Yeah.....I set it up pretty much the same way that I had my D70s for now 'til I get more comfortable with the extra features of the D200.

Ya know......That's a funny thing.

I do everything wrong with that whole scenario, but what I do works really well for me, so I utilize my own screwed up system.

Just like I got so comfortable with how my D70s works that I was starting to push beyond its capabilities, I know my computer, monitor, printer, and the machine at the printer all really well because I don't switch up anything, I get consistent good results, AND.....because I am *SO* consistent and exact about my process, it's easy for me to fix it when I get the occasional obstinate image.

I'd really have to say that it's only about one in about fifty images that I print that I have anything approaching aggravation trying to get sorted. I print 8x10s almost exclusively, and I probably print at least one 8x10 out of every hundred images that I shoot. I shot about 350 images today and have already done two that I'm VERY happy with the result.

Thanks, I am really quite pleased with that image.....just very frustrated that it uploaded looking so flat.

I even doinked around with the small file trying to get it to look right here on DPC, but it's just NOT cooperating.

Anyhow, to recap, I am so happy that I not only got the image, but that Jeanette doesn't think I did.

She apologized to me for the kids acting up.......I had a blast!!!!

She's too hard on herself.....they're just kids!

I can't wait for her to see it!

This is almost all of us on my wife's mother's side of the family. There's a few missing but that happens. We gathered together for her 96th birthday on the 13th. She was not expected to live to see it and continues to surprise all involved with her care.

Up until her fall just over a month ago she still lived alone but when they got her into the hospital they found a softball sized tumor at the base of her cerebral cortex that was bleeding and choking off her life. She was given only days to live. Now this is a lady who defies all odds, twelve years ago she was diagnosed with in-operable cancer and was given the option to let nature take it's course of she could take this little tiny pill that's being experimented with and see if it helps. So here we are all these years later and the cancer comes back and this time they told her that they couldn't do anything at all except to try an injection of a massive amount of steroids directly into the tumor and see if that helps. Well once again she baffles everyone and doesn't she start to show signs of getting better instead of worse. The tumor shrinks up to something that is all but gone and the bleeding stops all together. This is considered a miracle by one and all. Now unfortunately because of where the tumor is and the fact that she fell she has to stay in a wheelchair but all in all she's pretty happy.

She had to come to grips with never going home again and that's made her quite testy but she is slowly getting used to the idea.

Were all just glad she's not suffering and the fact that we were able to celebrate her birthday instead of attending her funeral is wonderful. That being said we'll not be to long before that happens, I'm sure.

All the best and thank you for looking.

Testy is not only good, it's outstanding! What a great lady. Thanks for sharing the story, Max!

Fantastic Max! Here's hoping for more birthdays for the lovely lady!

I just had a HUGE hawk land in my side yard, by the time I grabbed the camera it was gone. Bummer! It was being chased by a bunch of little birds, which was pretty comical.

Max you did a great job of documenting this wonderful celebration. She looks like a wonderful lady, and very much loved. Here is to many more birthdays.

Max, what a lovely story and what a strong little old dear! Good for her, making it so far and against such odds!

Kelli, Ah feel yer pain...once I was driving over the bridge to Ogdensburg, NY, a bridge on which there is ABSOLUTEY no stopping except for dire emergencies...and perched on the railing at exactly the halfway mark was a peregrine falcon. Had I stopped it would've been no more than 3 ft away, I had the Nikon with me...

*sigh* needless to say I couldn't/didn't stop. I could have cried.

But it always is funny watching a bird of prey being chased by a whole flock of much smaller birds!
