LOL !!
Oh, I know - photo of puppy/kitten eating, and the title says "refueling" |
Same thing I was thinking. LOL |
Or there is always the other end with the title "Natures Gas Station", what are the odds we see some variation of that theme....lol |

I have my shot in the can and I can't remember having an
entry in with so much time to spare which I guess means I'll be thinking about what's
wrong with it for a couple of days now eh lol
Oh by the way we don't have Taco Bell here in the UK so I had to shoot a petrol,(gas), station lol

I am laughing, I reckon this challenge has added to global warming from the amount of people who have been driving all over the country in search of a good fuel station. |

OMG you are so right Lutchenko,
I drove 358.2 miles the other day and found one decent gas pump to shoot. But it is sooooooooo old that it hardly looks like one, it is made out of glass.
Today, I drove 236 miles and found the perfect shot.
I am so never going to do this again, my arse has been numb for days! |

Wow, that is a lot of driving! o_o
Actually, I was going to take a 3 hour drive to get to a historic gas station around here... but I really don't have the time or money to do so =/ |

My wife and I only drive about 50 miles but got a ticket in the process. She took an illegal left turn. We both didn't see any signs posted but I'm sure they were there somewhere...I guess. This will be my first challenge participating in and already has a negative feel to it. The officer even got stern with me asking for my ID and if I had any warrants he should know about. When I told him no he says, "Are you sure!!!!??" in a very stern gruff voice as if I was lying to him. Go figure. Hope I can figure out how to post my challenge without breaking any rules. I don't want to get DQ'ed. Well thought I'd tell my tale.
See ya |

aw... that's no fun! If you're already having negative feelings DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT download the excel spreadsheet to track your votes. It's fun watching your average go up and down, but when you find out that someone has given you a 1 on your wonderful photo that you paid so highly for, it gets even worse! Watch from afar instead. |

I'm right there with ya Juliet. Didn't drive that much but, got up at 6am, headed out into the country and spent about 4 hours driving around. What was odd...I drove into the really old gas station, went inside and asked the gentleman if I could snap some shots of his station. He about freaked out as if I was the government or something and asked me to leave. Guess next time, I'll shoot and run. =P
And my arse is sore too. =) |

I just wanted to make sure I am within the parameters of the basic editing rules. I used the following tools in my submission: color balance, brightness/contrast, and crop. Can someone please let me know if these are acceptable to use within these rules. This is my first try at DSLR photography and using photoshop so I hope I don't get boo'ed out of the arena here :).
I have read the how-to on resizing so if this is OK I will re-size my image and submit it tomorrow. Thanks for all your help, this is really turning out to be a fun forum and I hope I can continue to hone my skills.
I have one other question though. I think I am currently saving everything through photoshop as a .TIFF file but when I re-size I will be changing it to a .jpeg so that it can be submitted. Am I losing any image quality by doing this or is this the best to go about it?
Thanks |

All legal as long as it is applied to the entire image, it should be no problem. |

And you must keep your unaltered original in case of validation.

Yep, the steps are fine as long as applied to the whole image. When you save after resizing, use "save for web" function. Make sure you check the optimize to file size and change it to 150 for open challenges (200 for member challenges). I went several months at 40 and didn't realize it. As stated above, save the original and work/submit off a copy. Good Luck!

This puts me in mind of a new thread possibility, "It shouldn't happen to a photographer" |

I've been driving around since the challenge got posted. 167 kilometres further and have about 120 images of 15 different gas stations. I live in Holland (hmmmmmm that might be a dead give away when you see my final image/ tried to find a gas station with that typical Dutch touch) |

I have a long exposure problem/question on a gas station shot. Anyone know what they're doing with long exposures and willing to help?
thanks! |

I did some research on this one. I know there are some cool abandoned gas stations in my area, but could not recall them offhand. I did a search in my local Flickr group and PM'd someone that I have seen a few gas station photos from. Got some good suggestions and then used Google maps and steeetview to pinpoint the exact location I was heading to. Found two great subject locations only a few yards apart form each other. Now the hard part is choosing. |

Yeah, put a TILTED HORIZON in it just in case you want to enter the other challenge instead. |

I've never tilted the horizon before. I'm finding it a lot harder than it looks! :) I think if I can't find anything to do with the gas station, I might just be out of luck this week. |
