By the way, you forgot the apples in one's cheeks,

so doing the math: 2*eye apples + 1 adams apple + an apple + 2 cheek apples = 6 apples!

LOL - you're so right Wendy! That was sloppy of me :)

But seriously: There are lots of nice entries (with one or more apples) and it was a pleasure to vote.

Sitting waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay lower than my expectations. Not a single comment from 75 voters passed by. If it's finishing where it is now, expect some rant from me after the challenge seeeking explaination ;o)

oh, come on! another 1? I think a photo has to be badly focused, colors so off that it makes you want to throw up, etc. for a 1. why do people feel a need to do this?
02/11/2009 04:49:51 PM · #81
unless someone is seriously giving 1's to anything with more than one apple
02/11/2009 04:54:35 PM · #82
But I have only one apple and I am getting 1 too.
02/11/2009 05:04:50 PM · #83
Well, I'm sitting at 4.65 but I just got a very nice comment so that makes me happy. Mine was really more about playing with process than the final image so I guess I didn't expect too much.

Edit to add - nice comment AND a favorite!

Some people have alternative criteria. One member I know of will give no more than a 2 if he feels the photo does not have "artistic intent". (I'm not really sure how he defines that quality.) Another ember gives a default vote of 3 unless the image connects with him in the first couple of seconds of viewing. If it doesn't speak to him, regardless of how good it is, he considers the image of no consequence and moves on.

I still don't like those low votes either, because 3's are what I give to the average poor snapshot, with 1 and 2 being reserved for the really bad or obvious brown ribbon efforts. I'm having a slightly easier time accepting them since some low voters have explained their criteria and thought processes to me.

Going up a little, but still a lot of people that aren't caring for it. I may make a 5, but it will struggle to get there.

4.85 for me. Wasn't expecting anything huge, but was expecting a bit better than that. Back to the drawing board!

I'm pleased to know I am in such good company today.

Well this is a first.

My score just changed by a large amount that suggests I just got a -1 !!!

I can only assume I got a 1 and someone adjusted their vote down at the same time

Here are my voting stats
You have given an average score of 5.8925.

Wow. Bouncing around 4.9-5.0. This is about the biggest difference I've experienced between what I expected and what I'm getting. I can usually predict fairly well. Oh well. I think folks don't like my subject choice.

Hello Everyone,

My score drops again! I'm sweating in the office looking at the apple that I photographed! Maybe I should just eat it! Luckily I didn't enter the Pet Portrait entery entry .... Haha.

I haven't voted on the challenge yet, probably won't until tomorrow night. I'm giving everyone 2's unless the photo features a Sasquatch bouncing on a diving board, wearing bowling shoes, and an undershirt with a Chili vomit stain all the while balancing an apple on his furry little arse. Because that ladies and gentlemen, is what speaks to me...

I've got you beat - 3.65 at 40 votes! I had 3 other "pretty" and completely different setups but decided to go with this one that was a little more fun and out-of-the-box. Getting lots of 1s and 2s I'm sure, but not one comment. This will be my lowest score ever but at last I'll get a ribbon - the Brown! :-)

I'm learning that out of the box is not taken very well actually I've decided in the last seven months that I must not have a frikken clue what I'm doing cuz I apparently suck as a photographer thankfully I have people in my world who do appreciate what I capture..........

Good luck I hope your 3.65 is moving up!

Someone's readjusting their scores and decided mine was even suckier than before.

I've decided that after I vote, I'll move things up, but never move things down. If my initial opinion was higher than when I revisited--I figure that's my problem and they should get the credit for the initial thought. There have been photos that I wondered "what in the world was I thinking!?" But hey, what the heck?

I'm actually surprised that the scores sound like they're lower than normal--I thought there were a lot of excellent shots in this challenge--I enjoyed voting.

By the way, I see on average how I vote--but is there a way to see the average (of what I voted) by challenge?
02/11/2009 08:36:06 PM · #95
You can see that during the challenge. It is displayed below every image and on the thumbnail page. I don't think you can pull it up after voting ends, though.

Largely as expected, my pre-voting estimate of great score is dashed within 24 hours of voting starting.

93 votes and a single unhelpful comment.
02/11/2009 09:45:22 PM · #97
I'm amazed at the number of votes on the first day. I think we'll be twiddling our thumbs for the rest of the week.

Hello Everyone,

My score went up a bit after my lunch time. I must start to eat more! Haha.

There is some very odd voting going on. Most votes are either 7-9 or 1-2. Go figure...
