Hi All,
This weekend I am shooting and have the choice of the Canon 50mm 1.8 or the 17 - 55.
WIll I get better results (image quality) using the 17-55 at the 55mm end?
Mounted in a 40D
cheers
Tony

Both those should do well. I would personally use the 17-55 due to the versatility. You're going to need wide for sure as the 50 would be way to constraining for an only lens to shot with.

I'd use the 50 and and leave it at f2 or 2.8 or so. Zoom with your feet, talk with your mouth and ignore the camera as much as possible.

| I would use the 50mm no question. Primes will always be sharper than zooms. |

Ahh, I see, I had weddings on the brain. For portraits, I agree the 50mm is just fine, it's my bread and butter for portraits.

cheers....heres my issues.....
I have the 50mm already......and I only need the 17-55 to zoom out to get full body..............I already have a 17-85 that I am trading for the 17-55 to get better quality shots when zoomed out......will I see a massive difference.......?
I would zoom with my feet but..........studio space is an issue.....
cheers
