This was the first pic I submitted with my new camera so I really need some suggestions as to how I could have made this better. Why such a low score? Is it the quality of the photo or the subject or what? Also, I've been staying at my parents since Oct. and using their pc without a calibrated monitor. Help please!!

mainly for the look of the subject, it seems a stolen shot. perhaps, if the subject had participated mainly, it would have been better. there are not formal defects, except to have enclosed the little piece of wall...

sorry for my english, is not so good...

It just seems a snapshot. A good one, but a snapshot. I gave it a 5. Perhaps some different lighting could have helped. Maybe a b/w treatment. Not sure. I'll play around with some adjustments of my own on the pic, if you don't mind.

I guess maybe that's part of the problem. I like "snapshots"!! :)

Here's what I did with it. Not sure if it's any improvement, but it's a different look.

I gave your image a 5, there isn't anything wrong with the image. It just doesn't jump out at you as really conveying a story, being really creative or standing out relative to other submissions.

I understand your frustration....I am in the same situation most of the time.
