just curious, what is 5/6, I thought the screeninng was a binary (yes/no) process...

They have changed it; it is now radio buttons for numerical values, with 6 being highest.

oops, it shows that I haven't voted in a while :)

Sounds good to me. For 1x though...probably needed one eye showing and more context but I still like it.

I guess I haven't been there in a while; did not know that. So basically 1 is no, 6 is yes, and it's still binary if you want it to be.

I'm open to suggestions of potential submissions? Haven't had anything accepted in about a year. But hey, my cofidence is shot all to hell thanks to this place, so why not submit now? Can't hurt anything! :-)

Hey Deb, Cheer up. You can't let the system here bring you down. Shoot for yourself and the rest will fall in place. You see how well I'm doing? hehe. We all still love you and look forward to your next image. (ooops. Can I speak for others? Might get pounded in a thread). Chin up!!

I've joined the club! :P

Thought this would have fit right in alongside many of their photojournalism shots, but bah, what do I know...

So, I see several comments here about what feedback they got from their screenings... I don't see any feedback on mine at all, unless I just don't know where to look (which is entirely possible). Where do you see feedback from screening? Or do you just get feedback from sumitting a photo to "critique" (which appears to be separate from screening). I mean, it doesn't bother me or anything, but I'd be happy to see if there were any comments, but maybe I just don't know where to look for them -- not the most intuitive site overall, but I'm figuring it out...

You typically don't get feedback unless the image has made it to member screening. If it was just rejected by the screening crew then you don't get any feedback at all. If it goes to member screening, then you still may not get feedback, but sometimes you do.

Ah, but at least you have had some accepted. I have never had anything accepted which confirms my own opinion of my images. I tried for the first time to get something accepted at 1x in 2007, so I have more or less given up trying. I realise I do not shoot 1x type stuff and that's fine, I can still enjoy looking.

The good news? I got a second one in...

//1x.com/v2/#?id=33807&action=view

It finished 13th in "Hidden Gem":

The bad news? Apparently, I have to drive to Truro to make publishable entries...

That's a 40% acceptance ratio for me, 2 of 5...

I think I'll try my Whiterook portrait next, when a slot opens up :-)

Okay, Whiterook submitted :-) Wish me luck, but I won't hold my breath...

Sans border, of course... They don't allow borders...

I'm sure it was a fun visit to New York........... for some of us.

Note: The xtra grain added to the image in PP...might have a chance of getting published???

Whiterook rejected! Comments:

Comments from members during screening

* I'll give a 1. Sorry there is nothing interesting in this photo, it's just a man smiling at the camera, and the processing, with that tonal contrast thing, doesn't make any sense to me. Sorry, but I prefer to leave you a straight feedback.
* too much skin editing!
* toooo much hdr
* HDR and Draganization are never complimentary to the human face. But it's interesting.
* over-sharpened. some background detail would have helped situate this portrait out of the studio and into the real world.

I guess that answers that question :-) Although I will say I wasn't trying to "compliment" his face, the shot was at the beach, not in the studio; that's a gray sky behind him...

Pff...what do they know? :-)

My most recent reject comment

"Your picture has been evaluated by both the site crew and the members. The common decision was not to publish"

In other words, "The site crew thought it sucked, but just to be sure we put it in front of the members. We were right, it sucked."

;-)

Good to know it was unanimous.

If it gets rejected by the screening crew without going to member screening (and many do) then you won't get comments, or reasons for rejections, or any votes
