Football is played with your feet here in America.
We carry the ball and run on our feet.
Now my question is: What's up with Handball???

We Americans like to call things by names that don't make sense, hence there is skin diving when we still have clothes on (albeit not much) and american cheese (do americans produce cheese or is that still cattle?) Basically we talk too much so at some point we ran out of words for stuff...
Anyway, alansfreed, those is some KICKA** pics, ma man. Obviously, bein' a Raider fan, I don't care much for Titans, but hell, FOOTball is FOOTball, right?
Or is it? |

Thanks for the kind words! Being a Steelers fan, I don't care much for the Titans either! :) |

we do have funny words. Why is the plural of mouse mice, but the plural of house is houses?

for that matter why did we name our computer clicker a mouse when it plainly looks more like a vagina with a tampon string comin' out of it?
why didn't we call it a tampina? |

Some "classics:"
ΓΆ€ΒΆ You get olive oil from sqeezing olives, and peanut oil from pressing peanuts ... where the heck do they get all that baby oil from?
ΓΆ€ΒΆ Why do we drive on a parkway and park in our driveways?
ΓΆ€ΒΆ If a fortification is a large fort, is ratification a large rat?
Not to mention the words which can have two entirely opposite meanings, e.g. "Sanction" means both to authorize and to officially prohibit.

Check out the PC mice with two front buttons and a thumbwheel.
You'd think though, as much computing as guys have been doing I haven't heard of all that practice improving anyone's technique any ... |

Sorry :(
If it's any consolation, at least you don't have to go into CompUSA and ask them which they recommend as the best joystick ... |

I never knew how ridiculous the English language is until I started teaching it to Japanese middle schoolers. An example from class this morning- the letter "C" is redundant and confusing. We already have an "S" and a "K". My students want the letter to be a "shi" sound. I told them I'd get right on that.
Oh, and being a Broncos fan, I am morally obligated to hate the Raiders, but it's still a cool photo! |

The term 'football' covers a lot of sports. It's a generic term. Specific games are specified with qualifiers like 'rugby football', 'American football', 'Australian Rules football' and so on, although for the life of me, I can't see where there are any 'rules' in the last one.
Our beloved 'football' (I'm Scottish, so I use this for the FIFA-run one) is qualified with 'association'. Now, actually it's the yanks who've got it right this time, I'm afraid. In England in the late 19th century, the word 'association' developed a slang version, 'soccer', which, if you say 'association' fast enough, sounds more or less right.
Much as I try to defend my own country's usage, I have to admit defeat on this one. Mind you, most of my Japanese students can be teased easily when their newspapers cover the 'JFA's soccer' events. |

DO YOU SEE WHAT A LIL FOOTBALL CAN DO FOR EVERYONE????
It educates, entertains, and makes some people a lot of money.
America rules. Even if we can't name our sports appropriately.
I know there are more football pics out there? Where dey at?
Nice pics, Eddy. Really clean.
