From the results of my contrast test photos I am thinking that we have a range of monitors setup running. If this is true it is going to make judging a bit hard. The test image below is meant to test the gamma of your monitor, this is nothing new but I thought it would be a good idea to get a sampling of what people are seeing.
It is quite possible that people are not seeing your photos that way you are. I'm not going to say what I think is right or wrong at this point, I would just like to know if we really are seeing things in a different light so to speak. The most likely reason for the differences would be the difference between the Mac and the PC.
Please take a second to look at the image below and reply as to which side seems closer in brightness to the center. It may help to backup just a bit for this, or remove your glasses. If you could also say whether you are using a Mac or a PC that would be a help.

Left one, but by just a margin.. hardly noticeable with the brightness sensor on or off.
Sony SDM-N80 18"
Contrast 100%
Brightness 60%

left also here, maybe the right side grey box is too small, its not the same size as the others, either that or the image hurt my eyes.... or the nyquil is kicking in...
