No not quite the same. You can still speak your mind. But start tossing in words like Assassination and they start to get itchy. I hope you didn't take offense to my comment I was just trying to warn you that it can happen. A few years ago a member at Fark.com had it happen to him just for making some unfriendly remarks about President Bush in one of the forums.

Simms or anyone else with NO radical background or prior REAL THREATS making the comment "I wonder if in thirty years time I will remember where I was when Obama got assassinated" will ever have their door kicked in by the feds.

I am, as an Englishman(sorry person!), interested in the progress of your president elect. I watched the primaries and followed debates shown on UK TV, both on this side and your side of that big wet area called the Atlantic.

The way I see it, and I could be mistaken, you have a totally untested, young, charismatic man about to become the most powerful man in the Western world. He doesn't come from a well known family or made a name for himself as an actor.

I will watch the televised Inauguration Ceremony at home, as it is a long walk to see it for real. So far, I have been impressed by what I have seen of him, although I wish he didn't make such a big issue over the choosing of a dog, but I noted he is going to a rescue centre to find one!

I wish him luck and success in the future. It is an historic event, as is any Inauguration of a New President. Regardless of colour, creed, religion, sexual preferences, Nikon/Canon user, Ford/GM driver or young v old issues, I hope he becomes one of the greatest presidents of The United States of America:))

hmmm....anyone watching Bush's Farewell address??

NOT ME....goodbye, don't let the door hit ya!

You are correct on the experience. I just wish he would pull his nominee for Tresury Secretary. Someone who owes back taxes and has undocumented housekeepers should not be put in such a position.

Yeah...goodbye Bush....but remember...it is no accident that the US has not been attacked since 9/11. Let's hope Obama takes this role seriously and continues to protect us at home.

I live in a very red district in McCains home state, demand was not high. I also applied the day after the election. On my way now, somewhere in OK as I write.

This has gone way off topic, I will be in DC the day after exploring. If anyone wants to meet then PM me. I have tickets to the Silver section as well so if anyone else here does mabye I'll see you.

I'll be in Memphis, (, tonight, anyone have suggestions on something to do while I'm there? I will have the morning to go shooting. Any good places to go around there for some nice sunrise pics?

Memphis should provide you with plenty of photo opps It is a pretty cool city, I was there with my parents (Elvis Fans) when I was younger and I am certain it has grown heaps and has plenty more to see and do now.

I got in a few days ago and things are starting to pick up here. The night life has proved to be pretty good so far. There is some free concert going on tomorrow at the Lincoln Memorial so that should be sweet. Well, i do believe it's time to hit the bars.

What I see as historical importance is the fact that Bush spent over 40 MILLION DOLLARS on his inauguration! That's a horrific number of dollars that could have been used to further many people toward not starving, or education, or... Yet it was spent on just one little moment in time. He certainly could have been sworn in with paying only a camera crew... well actually, the media are free and willing to report the event. So, nothing. He could have spent nothing and he'd still have been President ... and people could have eaten... or the US debt could have been reduced, or...

The media DID report the event... going on and on about how awful it was that he spent this horrible amount of money on the few hours. I agree. It's a large amount of money that didn't need to be spent and I agree that the media should have gone wild about it.

But... you know how much Obama spent on his inauguration? Guess.

Over three times as much as Bush. Yup. Estimates guess at his expensive party at being over 150 MILLION DOLLARS! Astounding. Where is the uproar? I haven't heard it... Where is the article in the NY Times as there was over the cheaper inauguration?

I'd definitely say History was made here. Definitely.

That is a crazy amount of money however you could look at it as alot of money being pumped into a starving economy which standing alone is a good thing.

Obama Flag

Next thing you know, the stars on the flag will be replaced with Obama's logo. One word. Desecration. How sad...

It's called capitalism. Anything to make a buck. I highly doubt it will be adopted as the new flag.

So the flags were given away for free? I doubt it. The souvenir business is huge and this is a huge event.

I'm sure the flags fall right in line with the Obama coin collection you see on TV every 5 minutes. Regardless, my point goes way beyond the few bucks you keep stressing. Men and women die for what the American flag represents. That flag is our history.

How far does the hype and hoopla have to go before it becomes offensive? Obviously not far...

The same company (Franklin Mint) offered Bush coins (Including one with both Bush's on the coin) after both of his election wins in fact they have offered various types of commemorative coins since the 60's. Its nothing new.

I didn't say it was. I grouped it in terms of money making, souvenirs, etc...

Defensive....no. An example yes. I could have just as easily used the Clinton coin, Bush Sr. coin set or perhaps even the entire presidential coin, but Bush Jr. was by far the most recent and therefore a relevant example.

Sorry for assuming defensiveness. I just find it funny the number of times President Bush is used as an example of something. Spinach tastes terrible and Mondays suck - it's Bush's fault! ;o) Sorry if I seem cranky. I honestly hate debating Capitalism and coin collections when my main point of the post was overlooked...

$120m? Easy enough to recoup: Just call off the war for about 3 minutes.

Of course, it's easier when you just make up the headlines. Coz none of those are, you know, real.

This thread is just downright sad and has fallen into a rant. Maybe it should be moved there.
