Does NOT have to be anything you put in your portfolio. Just has to be shot in 2008, by you. |

And, by the way, some excellent advice from a very wise man:
Anyone that views Best-of-Year as an opportunity to "score" is really missing the point; it is, or ought to be, a celebration of what we've done that we love best :-) |

Exactly right! Well said! I passed up images which might have scored better for one which makes me smile. |

I plan to do the same. I also plan to enjoy the heck out of seeing what everyone submits. Should be a fun ride! |

This is exactly how I decided... I had choice between a few and I went with the one that will likely score more poorly, but it's a good representation of my year in photography. Just feels right.... |

At the end of the challenge, it'll become clear that I chose for every reason BUT score. lol.
*EDIT* Argh! I want this challenge to start today!

What could reasonably be considered a high number of views or comments? |
Don't worry. This risk is quite overstated. Enter it. |
Yup. That's far better than what many did last year and probably will do again this year and that is enter an outtake from a previous challenge that had great exposure. If I recall some actually entered shots that looked strikingly similar to past ribbon winners and did pretty well with it. Although personally, you automatically throw away the 7-10 voting scale right off the bat from me if it just looks like you're trying to milk a previous high scoring shot. However, if it is distinct enough and not just another frame pulled from the same sequence you used last time than I'll consider it as a new image and judge it on it's own merits. That's just one vote though and I doubt many will do that so no real risk if you are just starving for another high score.

I don't know how to post quotes in a post. Sorry |
Go to the post you want to quote and click the "quote" button on its upper right perimeter; this will open a new reply box witht he quoted text already in it; just add what you want to add, and post as normal.

hmmm...i struggled trying to figure which was my best shot of 2008. I had so many that i fell in love with and some that i think are great shots but won't fit in with the DPC community. I hope i narrowed it down to the right shot, but I definetely don't think it's a ribbon winner for this challenge...but probably could have in other challenges of 2008....(normallly when i think that highly of a photo..it bombs...so here i come low 4's) |

Having joined in the middle of last year I didnt realise there was a best of the previous year. damn. Now Im having a quandry about risking using something that people have seen in a side challenge or using something that I shot near the beginning of the year when I had just got my slr & was still playing with settings so the shot isnt as good as it could be.
Oh I hate making decisions!! |

I second what he said. Don't worry about it. Enter your best shot.
As it happens, I kept my entry-to-be from the public eye for several months, but that's just because as soon as I shot it I knew where it was going. I didn't even enter it in the best-of-month FS because I was saving it for best-of-08. But I have entered previously-shown images before, and I have seen ribbons go to previously-shown images, so....
The simple fact of the matter is MOST DPC challenge entrants don't read the forums regularly anyway...

Ya'll don't see the number of requests for dq we get for it. I just want people to be aware that IF they enter something that has been seen, there WILL be people vote it down. It is not a rule, just a recommendation. |
Just my personal opinion, but why on earth would someone vote down a shot only because they knew who had done it. It doesn't make logical sense to me and it reeks of unfair play.
If I see any shots I recognise from anyone's portfolios they will get a rating based on my opinion of the shot, not of the user. |
