I want to welcome all of 2009 FSM Participants. All usernames have been listed and it's now time to begin. Entering twelve consecutive months of Free Study Challenges is not as easy as it sounds; scoring consistent and high in each is even harder. It's a marathon, just ask anyone that has participated in prior seasons. Best of luck to everyone, lets have fun with friendly competition.

No don't do that, I have been enjoying the fact that my user name is top of the list because I know when we start I wont be seeing my name in that position anynore.

My 2008 placing is going to take a big hit as I missed my second month. Oh well. Of the months I did entered I had a higher average than last year. I think I would have reached 2nd or 3rd place had I just shot my average in those missing months.
Btw Scott, fantastic job on the new web site and in running this marathon in general. I can't imagine it running any smoother.

Lol, me too! Low 5... guess I shoulda entered a female subject instead. =D
I've only entered a couple Free Studies last year, and every time I do my score reminds me that voter taste is a little different in FS's. In the spirit of good sportsmanship here in the FSM thread, anybody care to share their FS entry tips before things get going for those of us who are a little rusty? Thanks in advance! |

| Yep...here's how I score consistently on Free study's....take alot of shots. pick one that i think looks amazing. Run it by my mom or my brother or my girlfriend. When they tell me how great it looks, i enter it and I score in the low 5's (current FS). The other option is the same as above, but instead of running it by anyone....I just enter it...and i watch it tank into the low 4's and i regret ever taking the shot! |

Since the Disqualification Notification form is strictly anonymous I have to answer the question that a user posted in the form here.
An unamed user asked the question, "How are you doing this?".
Answer:
If an entry has been disqualified by DPC after the results of a monthly free study has been posted the FSM will also void that entry. I will do my best to check throughout the season for disqualified entries but I can only do so much and that's why I have the Disqualified Notification form available for other participants to help me find any entries that has been DQ'ed by DPC. Since DPC has the right to disqualify an entry months after a challenge has ended and usually does not post a thread pertaining to the DQ'ed entry unless it effects a top 5 image, the FSM has to manually check throughout the year. With the Disqualification Notification form the FSM is asking you to help in making sure that the scores and points are adjust correctly if such a disqualification occurs.

I finished decently in the FSM this year. I am a single guy with no family to ask so I simply looked for the photo with the most "Wow Factor" and went with that. Twice I entered what was my favourite shot instead of going with wow factor and both times they scored worse. Sometimes the two things are the same shot so that is always nice when the moon and the stars align like that, but it does not happen often. :) |

me three. still ended up in the top 50...;)
i think this year i'm only entering if i really have a good shot, not like last year when i thought i had to enter FS just for the sake of that competition even if i didn't have a decent shot.

I have been so Ill these last days I have not had chance to shoot I found some shots from new year and submitted one of those and will keep my fingers crossed. This flu virus is horrible, trust me. Comes & go's

That is how I usually feel too, till I see that my shot is going to tank, then I cannot wait for the voting to be over! |
