In the shadow contest I had great comments and a bad score. Here I start with a good score and a bad comment. I give up. Haahahaha. |

"Create a photo in which a transparent or semi-transparent object is between you and your subject."
DNMC??
Is it just me? Or does it appear that many photographs have their main subject as transparent, but there is nothing behind it. According to the challenge description, the subject should be behind the transparent object, not the transparent object being the subject.

It all depends on what is considered the subject by the author of the photograph.......!

In reality, I think it depends on what the voter considers the subject.

The photograph is determined by the photographer and what they consider to be the subject.
The voting is determined by the voter and what they consider to be the subject.
Summary...you play russian roulette with the voters and what they assume to be the subject in your photo.

Actually doing better than expected. For a change of pace, the viewers are seeing what I saw in this. No comments yet, but there probably is not a lot to comment about.

I can see what you mean about the a lot of photographers having there subject being transparent...mine probably is taken like that as everything seems transparent but thats not the case...anyway ive now learnt in the 5 photos ive submited that trying to think out side the box and try something different doesnt work and people vote more on the same and simple things. i'd try be simple in the next weeks challenge. |

It took me 10 months (I'm a quick study) but I finally figured out that I really shouldn't care what the voters think, I should only care about what I think. (unless getting a ribbon is that important to you) Hang in there and get yourself into some of the side schallenges. You meet some great people and enhance the talent you already have. (I peeked at your portfolio).
Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Cheers for that comment Jeff(i looked at your profile as well)i havent set my sights as high as a ribbon yet, ive only really gotten into photography in the last year and take more surfing shots but ive really enjoyed having a topic to photograph apart from my normal.
im looking forward to learning heaps and growning and sites like this one give someone like me different aspects of photography that i dont have a clue about as yet..lol.
its fun...ribbons arent my focus...over 5 would be nice..lol
Happy New year to you all anyway..well ive still got 2 hrs left!

After a year and a a few odd months on this site, I am finally getting to where I don't care as much about the score. But, then why am I posting in this thread?

I guess it still matters to some extent, but I am learning to interpret everything, and not just the final score. |

Many of us are just competing against ourselves to improve our own photography. Wait'll you hit your first 6, then you'll be hooked. It's like drugs. |

Stats: You have rated 151 of 152 images (99%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 3 images (2%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 5.5828.
Well I have finished voting. Will go back later a bump a few. So far I have given 3 tens, some sevens, a number of sixes and the rest fives. Nothing below a five. Some very interesting photos. Mine is hanging a 5. Which is okay, especially since I went with a photo I am not attached to. Which actually feels really good because I am not getting upset over it. Good luck everyone and have a wonderful and safe last few hours of 2008. |

My theory is being proven by this one. If my wife dislikes it, it will do fairly well. If she thinks it's great, that is the kiss of mediocrity. She really didn't care for this one.
