I just need to take a moment to whine about where I live.
WHY IS ALL THE WIRING ABOVE GROUND HERE? It took me forever to get a good shot because all, all, all the wiring snakes across everything!!!
The End.

What WERE the city planners thinking when they did that? lol
Same here. |

I hear you. I really do.
But it's because we're in an earthquake country that makes below ground wiring difficult, at least that's the official reason. |

I don't know- I lived in California for awhile too, and they managed to bury their wires. Plus, I hear that the Japanese have a lot of problems with downed powerlines during typhoons. But then I learned a lot time ago to take the "official" reasons with a grain of salt here ;-). |

It's an advanced editing challenge. You can clone the wires out :)

I have run into the same problem. We live in a town that has great view, but many are greatly diminished by overhead power lines. It is hard to bury anything here, we live on lava, which can be pretty hard, still I think it might be worth while getting the power lines underground.
As for cloning the wires out, yes this can be done but the real views still have the wires in them. Given the choice I would rather have the wires showing in the photos and not in real life.

Yeah, I'm leaving my wires in. What the hay.

Is this like Urban Legends? Does the the city HAVE to be in it. Or can it be in nature?
Please respond soon

My shot is mostly nature with a tiny bit of civilization in it...it's really up to your interpretation and from one voter's point of view, if you can convince me it's where you live it's worthy of a high score (that is if the photo is good of course)

well, I live very near it. It is the town I live in.
I think I will use it anyways.

You don't have to take a photo of the building/house you live in, just take a photo of your city/village and you'll be fine :) |

What about nature around your town?

Should be fine---the greater the risk, the greater the reward...but then again the greater the loss...that's how it is in photography.

True, thank you. Probably greater the loss, but hey, it'll be fun.

Orussel:
I have one comment that is pretty helpful, and after 47 votes, a very low score (even by my standards.) I have not had a chance to look through the other entries, so not sure whether they are all great, or if I just did a poor job.
Best

I have 5 comments after 58 votes, my lowest score by far, and a desire to find some way to DQ myself :-( (...can I do that?? ;-)

Well, I've one comment and 47 votes. I'm really disappointed so far - feel my picture is better than a sub five, but then again, I've voted on over a third of the pictures in this challenge and find that I've not given above an 8 yet. That may change as I go through again later and leave comments. Unfortunately for me, my average score given is over one point higher than my average score received - doesn't mean I rate others work more highly than my own, just means I vote a bit more leniently than those who're voting on mine.

When I first read the challenge I figured it should be an image that shows some civiliazition.
After reading it the second time, and thinking about what kind of pictures are usually in guide books, I don't think an image should have to have buildings or dwellings in it.
I might be saying to much, but mine doesn't have much "civilization" in it. But it is also less then a mile from where I live. The nearest "town or village" is more than 8 miles away.
I was expecting more comments on not meeting the challenge because of this, but since I have 122 votes and only 2 comments, only 50% of my votes have mentioned not meeting the challenge.. haha

Mexico is the King of wires. You can't take a shot without them. |

If this is truly an advanced editing challange, you have a responsibility to take the wires out!! If this is truly an advanced editing challenge, we should be scoring each other on our advanced editing capabilities!! |

What about culture. The guide books try not just to show you what the scenery of a location my look like, but what activities one might see, what it might feel like to be there. Two or three baseball shots, and one youth mentoring theme was it for cultue. We are a truly homogenized bunch here at DPC. |
