Well finally got the kids the Guitar Hero. It is the world tour with the drums. One day of playing and one of the cymbols stopped working. You need everything to play or you get BOOed and the game ends!
Seems the drums have many problems ! You can't return to Best Buy or other stores...maybe Walmart....
However, they seem to want to help. I had to report problem and troubleshoot through the web. Cymbol still not functioning.
I had to give serial number. They are sending out another whole drum pad section via two day UPS free of charge. I chose to give my credit card. This way they send out the part in 24 hours. I have 28 days to return the defective part or get charged. Should be ok here.
Seems that they got this to market too soon! Many many issues on the web.
Anyone else have issues?

World Wide Web of consumer reporting. Why is it people always find the issues online after they buy stuff?

| I have the new Guitar Hero with the drums. Haven't had any problems with it so far, and I got it on it's release date in October (yeah, I'm hella dorky). I do know, however, that they put out a "tuning kit" that you can use to adjust the sensitivity of the drums, and presumably fix other problems. I'm not sure where you'd find this, but I assume it would be on the Xbox 360 site. |

Good to hear that yours are working. Maybe I just got a bad one and the replacement will be ok.
I see on the Activision website there is now a tuning kit. It is a midi to USB plug. You plug your drums into a pc and it finds and loads a small patch. You can then adjust each drum's sensitivity.
The kit is free and they even send it out 2nd day air for no charge.

| They have had the same drum set on display at our local Walmart since the release of AC/DC's latest CD. It looks a little weathered now but it is still in working condition, For the record I have seen kids beating the living hell out of it while I was in the store looking at 360 games on more than one or two occasions. |

Nah...seems each of them has trouble. First search on web produced this.

| We got Rock Band this year (got Guitar Hero last year). It's been a hit with the whole family. You should hear my eight year-old belting out Roxanne (police) and Dead or Alive (Bon Jovi). |

I have Rock Band 1 and 2 and GH 3 and 4 and I must say I think Rock Band wins hands down on all instruments. GH4 is definitely fun but there is just too much wrong with it. Rock Band to me is much more polished and satisfying to play (with over 500 songs available to download too!)
When I first got Rock Band my drums were a bit broken too, thats not a totally GH specific problem! My second set were a lot better but started losing sensitivity recently and I had to put socks over them with rubber bands. For Christmas I got the ION premium drums and I must say I'm in love. It's given the drumming a whole new level of fun and satisfaction! It's not just having cymbals, its the added bounce, size, weight, adjustability, sensitivity. They're just perfect! Highly recommended to any virtual drummer! They can even be upgraded to a real drum kit if you splash out on an Alesis brain :)

We got the Rock Band with the Guitar, Mic, and Drums. We are having a blast with it.
We can nail "Should I stay or Should I Go". We are working on "Wanted Dead or Alive." Vocals are a little harder on the last one. |

We don't have either, but my sister does, so we go to her house. :)
Should we stay or should we go is fun.
My 6 yo loves Dead or Alive, though. He likes to do the mic -- and usually gets around 88% on the vocals. :)
I'm not very good at it. I can muddle my way through on the bass and guitar, but I look like a chicken having seizures on the drums. |

You can get Rock Band Special Edition - Includes Rock Band 1, guitar, Mic, and drums for $99.00. I got ours at Best Buy.
We got it for the Wii, but I think they had it for PS2 as well. Might be more for PS3 or Xbox 360. |

I have GH3 and just got GH4 for Xmas, what would you say is wrong with it (never played Rock Band).. I will say GH4 is a lot easier than GH3, I have just hit 94% on `Hotel California` on Expert level on my first go, so it IS a lot easier than GH3 which was VERY hard on expert level. |

We got our kids the Guitar Hero ($189) from Best Buy.
Day #1 the drums weren't working because of a severed wire. Best Buy took it back and swapped it for a brand-new box with no hassle at all.

Ours did exactly the same thing Ken. We were playing all Boxing Day and it was going perfectly. The next day our orange cymbal was dead completely and the sensitivity is all over the place. The drum tuner that you can get apparently works very well (I've heard they supply it free). I'm having to send our cymbal back to them today and have requested the tuner as well! *sigh* disappointing!

I think the presentation is a bit shoddy and for some reason I can't put my finger on the drums and guitar just aren't as satisfying to play compared to RB2. Also the online play is very lacklustre I think. The vocals don't seem to work very well in GH4 for some reason too. I don't really like the way you have to activate star power on the GH4 drums, hitting the 2 cymbals, it always throws me off the rhythm. In Rock Band you activate it where at certain points there are fills. If you hit the crash cymbal at the end of the fill it's activated. The fills in GH4 just turn into a mash-fest because you get a point-per-hit, and the drum samples just sound weak. I also struggle to calibrate GH4 with my TV since there is no minus latency which is what I use in RB2. Another thing is the weird purple connected notes which you're meant to 'slide' in GH4. They're just weird and you can completely spam your way through them since you don't need to strum at all - it ruined any difficulty in the harder songs for me.
Overall I did enjoy GH4 for a few weeks but RB2 will rarely come out of my Xbox in the months and probably years to come.
