The two Saturday parades available are the:
Krewe of Centaur on 14 Feb.
Krewe of Centaur
Krewe of Gemini on 21 Feb 09.
Krewe of Gemini
Also in 2008 Kat and I went out to the base and shot at the lake and the linear air park. This will also be on the schedule for Sunday morning.
Those that are interested let's get together and figure out which one and as people sign up I will add them here at the beginning of the thread.

Hey Kat,
Any input on which weekend you would prefer? |

Sounds fun. Don't count me as definite, but I might be able to make this. |

Erm, Gemini has better floats and throws...but either would work. Not definite, but might be going to Arkansas over Valentine's weekend. (Although...the parade that day might be really good just because it IS Valentine's day...hmmmm).
Which works best for you? James has the 21st off, would take vacation for the 14th. |

For me it doesn't really matter. The biggest decision I have is what time I need to start walking to the parade route. These are both down the Shreveport/Barksdale Hwy again. :) I think you are correct about the Gemini parade and it's right before fat Tuesday also, so I think the partying is a little harder which equates to more people and photo ops.
Steve, your tentative preference?

The 21st would probably be better. My wife might not like me being away with photo buddies on Valentines day. |

A word for the wondering...I took over 700 photos between the base and the people. It was a really fun weekend. (Even had a beer or two, lol!)
Lots of the stuff I haven't even done anything with yet, but the opportunity for some great shots (and some fun) is high!
We even got beads without flashing!! :P

OK, so I'll remove strike the references to the 14th in the original post and we'll shoot for the 21st.

Depending on weather we may try to go out to the base Saturday morning first, instead of waiting till Sunday morning. I have a good sandwich shop lined up for one of the meals and they serve a wide variety of beers.
Sorry about James, any possibility of him swapping with someone?
Clay hasn't checked in here yet so I'm not sure if he's joining us. |

Good sandwich shop? I don't suppose the Teddy bear sandwich den has reopened? That was my favorite place when I lived there in the mid '80s. They had a huge grizzly bear on a bench in the entryway and he always seemed to be patting the space next to him for my wife to come sit down with him

This one is called the Real Pickle and they have a good variety of sandwiches as well as dinners available. It's on Line Ave by Superior Bar and Grill. |

I'll see if there is any way he can get someone to work for him. I really hate his boss....he's screwed up more holidays/vacations for us in the last 6 years... |

21st has been placed on the calendar, so we'll see if he actually gets it off. They started a whole new system and it looks like, lol, he might be in charge of the team's vacation as he's team leader...so....muahahaha! I'm psyched to hit the base again! |

Friendly bump. Mentioned this to another person at DPC from this area...he's registered, but not a "blue shirt", so can't recommend his portfolio yet. :) He does shoot CANON and he does photography for the high school and the news paper. Very nice guy... jpdenison The stuff I've seen is good! Maybe we can get more than 2 this year! :P
COME ON PEEPS, WE'RE FUN!!!! |

I was stationed there for 2 1/2 years. Could be a blast from the past for me. I'm sure a lot has changed. |

Come to find out there is a Bass Master's Classic fishing tournemant that weekend also. Rumor has it that there will be an additional 70,000 folks in town just for this event. This does not count the folks that will be coming in for Mardi Gras. But, that also gives another possibility to shoot something different if you want to shoot a bass. :-)
(as a bump!) |
