Okay, I live in Western Washington where we get maybe a dusting of snow once a year and a TON of hills. I bought a new truck a few months ago but the one I wanted only came in 2 wheel drive but I thought "Hey, we never get snow, how bad can it be??" Got to work fine this morning (all downhill) and was doing good coming home until the last block and the final hill. I tried probably 8 times back and forth but that little engine just couldn't do it. My dear husband finally came along and after his 2nd try got it up the hill so I was already a little irritated at him for showing me up! We finally pull into the driveway but just a smidge crooked so he decides he is going to straighten it out. Throw it into reverse - it starts sliding right towards my daughters truck. Luckily stopped inches before hitting it. Right now my truck is in the middle of the street with my husband trying to shovel the snow out of the way to get it back in the driveway. I know it is a pretty minor gripe but I figured if I purged my rant here I wouldn't be such a grump when he gets in! |

You just need some weight in the back of that truck! Throw in some sandbags or something heavy. |

Well, at least it didn't go something like this for you. :P |

I am in Washington too! I feel your pain with driving, but I am loving the photographic opportunities! |

There's this new invention called "snow chains" that you should try. They work great. :D

I moved to Michigan in winter with a 2WD pickup and yeah, it sucks, I turfed the neighbors' yards a few times before I got the hang of it.
You need 300-400 lb of weight over the rear axle. My preferred weight was 9-10 bags of water softener pellets because in spring, when you don't need the weight, you can use it in the water softener. Otherwise use bags of sand. Also handy is a shovel and a bag of non-clumping kitty litter to put under the tires for traction. |

They don't work so hot on a bed-empty, 2WD small pickup though... Weight over axle is the main thing to add.

LOL - (another Seattlite here) - the UPS guy called me from the top of my hill (about a 3 block long hill, of which we are at the bottom). He said he has 5 packages for me and is not coming down the hill and asked if I could come up and get them. So I took my 4wd pickup and headed up the hill - not too bad. The UPS truck sitting at the top and a guy in a small pickup coming down decides to go around the UPS guy as I am coming up, so I had to slow down and let him through. As he passed me he hit the brakes and slid and crashed into a brick mailbox pedestal. I still made it up, collected my packages, turned around and made it back down safely.
The kids LOVE the hill and parents have sometimes waved off the sand/plow truck because they don't want to ruin the sled run - which pisses all of us at the bottom off!
Tomorrow I am expecting a *special* pkg from UPS and I may have to walk up to get it if the snow doesn't stop! |

You're worthy, no doubt in my mind ... I know that you'll love that camera ... I've had great results with it so far, don't regret my purchase one tiny bit |

Stoopid snow... it's all Art's fault... somehow, I'm sure it's Art's fault :)
We got a few more inches of Seattle's garbage last night. I had a massage appt today, never feel like driving afterwards anyway, so figured I'd reserve a taxi. Yeah, right!
One company was booked solid all day and none of the others were answering the phone, so I had to get out the shovel and salt. I needed that massage by the time I was done.
Our driveway slopes quite steeply down to the road, where we come out in the middle of a fairly steep hill, have to go up to the mainer road, where we come out in the middle of a fairly steep hill, go up again to the bigger main road, where we come out at the TOP of a steep hill. But at least they've been plowing/sanding our cul-de-sac at least twice a day. |

JDub, I think Art should have to bring his torches and melt us out, eh?
Then again, you're Montana, you're supposed to have snow. I think we'll just put him to work on Washington and BC :)

Not only did we get snow... but we had to cope with a massive influx of vehicles due to the bus strike in Ottawa. I left home at 0600hrs so I would be in early.... sure, got there after 0800hrs.
The joys of winter.

I just heard on the news tonight about several people reaching in their snowblowers to remove an obstruction and losing some fingers. Don't be an idiot like those folks - get a neighbor to remove the obstruction. :D |

If he's like my kid, just feed him a dozen or so M&M's every 20min and he'll have the neighborhood cleared in a couple hours... :P |
