Nikon shows a celebrity using the product while a voice-over reminds you of the camera's features. Canon shows you some examples of great shots you can get with their product. The Canon ad made a bigger/better impact on me. Lots of interesting stuff here.

Which do you prefer, in camera advertising on TV--features of the camera (Nikon) or benefits of owning the camera (Canon). The Ashton ads have been annoying me for some time now.

The Nikon commercials in my opinion are just an attempt to offset the perception that Canon is for "cool" young people, while Nikon appeals to "old" people. (notice I said perception). When I was selling cameras I saw this alot- Canons were small and lightweight (rebels specifically) and the Nikons tended to be bigger and bulkier.

I don't know what genius at Nikon decided that Ashton was a beloved celebrity and thought people would flock to Nikon because he was doing their commercials. But, clearly I am not in the target audience for these. They instantly go on mute.

ETA: Of course I don't appreciate Canon using a clip of the Giants scoring against my beloved Broncos- of course then again who hasn't scored against the Broncos the past few years.

Oddly enough the Canon rebel commercial was done with shots done by a 1DMKIII. How ironic is it that you show what a Rebel(entry level) camera can do by using stills shot from the highest line you sell(not including 1DsMKIII).

Matt

And as far as the Nikon commercials........just as lame to use Ashton to showcase their products. Although that does give the impression that any moron can use their products. :D

hahaha I had the very same thought. The video on YouTube showing the making of the Canon commercial is interesting.

there's a funny story behind the sharapova canon commercials.
apparently one of the guys decided to take break-time shots of her and she sued.
but from the break-time photos shown, i think she had asked for it.
