I took this photo and everyone at work is raving about it. Their opinions are nice, but I respect yours more.

Thanks!

The trees serve to frame the scene well.

Left this comment on the shot also...

This has some very nice tonality. It also has a very nice focus and DOF as well.

It is a little confusing to the eye though. Part of this is because of the tilt. Your horizon is not level. At first I wasn't sure it was but because of the crooked frame of the old building and the unstraight tree to the right. However, looking at the background trees confirms that the overall shot is crooked. This is an easy fix in Photoshop. PM me if you need details.

Another reason that is a little confusing to the eye is the leading lines. The lines from the building frame work lead you into the shot, but there is nothing there to land on. This would not be an issue if the shot was cropped more on the right side and you had more shot on the left side. This way the leading lines would direct the eye outside the frame which can be quite effective! Not seeing the original, I do not know if this is possible or if it would have to be reshot.

Much potential here. Can't wait to see more of your work!

I also see much potential in the shot. My suggestion would be to really take some more time to explore your subject and try experimenting from various angles. I took a look through your portfolio and I found one image that I liked so much I felt the urge to make a few edits on it. I hope you don't mind. The shot was so wonderfully emotive and serene. All it needed was a slightly different crop and I thought it would look nice in black and white with some levels and curves adjustments. Here it is:

It would look much better if done to the original sized file of course. :)

I actually think that the DOF is a little shallow. Something about the trees being sooo blurred bothers my eye, although it could partly be due to the crap monitor of the staff computer.

I like the contrast and the gradient of the sky alot. The tilt on the horizon doesn't bother me too much, just because it relates to the here-there quality on the construction of the building.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all of your input. I didn't have a lot to time to really think about the shot when I took it. We were driving by in the car and I just framed it as best I could at the time.

Jason, that shot is my daughter in Green Bay last Summer. I thought she looked really sweet standing out there. Thanks for noticing it. It looks a lot better with your adjustments. :)

I keep copies of all my pics in the original sizes, but they take up so much space in the portfolio.

Ok. I'll delete your photo from my portfolio later tonight. Don't like to portray other peoples work as my own. Feel free to copy the edited file if you'd like.

Happy photography
