Just reworded a few bits. I've added the scenario where a member is playing a registered user, which was raised before. In that scenario the average taken will only span those challenges both are eligible to enter.

Just to clarify, all challenges count for the tourney. In matches where a member is playing a registered user, in practice only the open challenges will be eligible for head-to-heads.

as i said in a previous post, it makes more sense to start on the 7th Jan and run it monthly to the 7th each month after that.
this monthly cycle makes it easier for the free study scores to count as well!

anybody agree???

As round 1 officially starts on 1 Jan, one calendar month after that is 1st Feb. Therefore, for any 1 round matches that haven't got to 2 points by the morning of 1st Feb, any challenges that are still in voting will be allowed to run their course including, by that point, the Jan Free Study. and the average will then come into play. This of course means we won't know who the winner is immediately.

I'm hoping therefore that most matches won't run a month or we could be here for a while ;-)

I've just made a further change to say that, in rounds 2 onwards, when the average will be of all your challenges from round 1 onwards, it will only apply if you've entered two or more challenges in the current round.

This will hopefully protect us from the scenario whereby, let's say a photographer has a good round 1 and gets a couple of high 6s, and wins a place in round 2. Otherwise they might decide not to enter any matches in any rounds after that, knowing that at the end of each round their average from the start of round 1 will be taken, which of course is of the couple of high 6s in round 1. This would pretty much guarantee them winning every match after that. This now isn't possible as, if they didn't enter at all during the month, then their all-time average would be used as a final tie-breaker.

I dont know what this means but I think it could mean that I can only enter basic editing challenges and someone against me can enter advanced editing challenges giving them more of an advantage. If this is the rule then I will just do my best and enter and let the cookie crumble but I dont really have hope that I will last long in the contest being against advanced editing.

My interpretation is that if you as a registered user (cannot enter member's challenges, only basic) are playing against someone that is a member, that the member can enter the member's challenges as well as the basic. However for the purpose of the head to head, only the basic challenges would count towards earning the point and only if you both entered a basic challenge during the same week. (two points needed to advance) If a member is playing a member then the member's challenges also count if they are both entered in the same one, as well as the basic challenges if they both enter one in the same week.

So you are not disadvantaged in any way. It just means that when a member plays off against another member there is more chances (more challenges) they can enter to go head to head against each other.

ETA: I would look at it as the member's being disadvantaged when playing a registered user, since most of us that are members enjoy and are used to using the extra editing available, but when we play a registered user we can no longer use one of our skills. (advanced editing)

That's another discussion hehe (and I'm inclined to agree because I much prefer advanced to basic lol) not a lot I can do about that though.

Spot on :-) plus for the member in that head-to-head, your average will only be taken from the challenges the registered user had the opportunity to enter too (i.e. open challenges) that way the registered user won't be disadvantaged if the member had a great FS shot or something like that.

One of these days I would love to see a side challenge (other than the FSM) which is for members only, and only uses the FS and the members weekly challenges. I tend to really suck at basic editing challenges and every side challenge tends to just use the basic challenges so that everyone is included. Basic challenges are ok when they choose the right theme, but lots of times they pick something for basic that just screams for advanced editing, which really is frustrating. (for example when they used studio portrait as a basic challenge... how often do you shoot a portrait and not do some form of spot editing?)

_____________

Ernie, I feel your pain as I'm sure so many others do, but you have to admit that total inclusion of all users is one of the inherently unique qualities of this wonderful site.

Besides brother you'd kick my a$$ in basic or advanced but I'd still be up for the challenge :) So bring it on.

MAX!

That is true Max, so then I guess a better way of putting it would be that it would be cool if the two open challenges were made up of one with basic editing and one with advanced. How does that sound?

Not so sure about kicking your butt all over the place, I am quite capable of laying a brownish coloured egg and do it way more often then I would like to. :)

So I'm not sure if I missed it but is there going to be a redraw? Just curious to see whom I might be pitted against.

Personaly I'd like to see the extra peeps just slotted in in the order they signed up, either that or a complete redraw. Am not sure selective people asking to be redrawn is a good thing (regardless of them both agreeing).

True enough. I really do not care either way. Let Soulman make the decision and get it done. :)

See it fine.

Some excellent matchups. So, who's going to run a book on this now that the draw is out? :)

haha! I am looking forward to kicking some very pretty Aussie butt!

In fact, miss Judi I will make a wager with you.

Whoever wins between us can create an icon the other one has to use as their profile picture for the month of February. What do you think?

Sounds like we have a live one. This should be fun. Here's my only advice to you. Don't bring a knife to the gun fight. :)

All right, I was actually readign this thread to figure out what I was meant to do, then got all wigged out on guns and knives.

SO it starts January 1st and it is basic challenge.

So is that for the whole of January or once a month or I am too blonde and full of gin to know what is going on?
